Since i bought my Olympus E-P7 and discovering your channel, ive reignited my photography spark. I live in the NE so i can relate to a lot of your locations and it gives me the motivation to get out with my camera. I also have a Nikon DSLR so i have the perfect choice when shooting landscapes. Thank you for posting. Keep up the cracking work.

I love that third photograph. The log in the foreground really adds a wonderful element to the photograph. Plus, I think you really captured an interesting emotion with it based on the composition and the lighting. Thanks for taking us along on your trip.

Well you gave me the motivation to head out so off to Falling Foss i went. I couldnt find a rope, but i did find a scraggy bit of yellow washing line, which wasnt much help. How i got back up I never know! Great to be out again though.

Sounds like that was the part I went down, old yellow and thin? Fun scramble isn’t it. Love to see what you got!

Hi, Chris! We have similar journey with Olympus - I owned E-M1 Mark II when I found out your channel and when I ordered OM-1, you also switched to it, so seems like a channel tailored specially for me. :D Anyways, why did you manually bracket the highlights and shadows? There`s great HDR list of options with how many exposures with what amount of difference camera should take. Used it since E-M1 mark II, and still going to use it here. You should check it out, if not already - makes such type of photography much easier. There is manual bracketing and HDR bracketing, when camera takes a burst by itself. Not talking about auto HDR merging in camera, but bracketing 3, 5, 7 different exposures. Anyways - thank you! I really find your content pleasure to watch. :)

Great composition and colours in all three images Chris - many thanks for sharing. As a matter of interest, do you think the OM5 would be capable of producing the same IQ?
@ChrisBaitsonPhoto2 ай бұрын
I’m sure the OM5 produces lovely IQ but the OM1 having the stacked sensor will certainly have a boost in IQ over the OM5.

Chris, I'm loving your channel and appreciate your approach to photography. I know you are currently into long exposure shots, but in this case, since the waterfall is already somewhat silky and misty in it's natural state, might it be better to shoot at normal exposure to show a little texture in the falls?

Quick question, what was your focus point when you took the second photo, from behind the big rock? Also what aperture? Many thanks.

If I remember rightly it was around f5.6 and I focussed on the rock itself.

great video and photos as always just wondering what camera did you use to film this episode? do you have 2 OM1s or do you use a different camera when your OM1 is in use?
@ChrisBaitsonPhoto2 ай бұрын
I use the E-M1 Mark ii for video at the moment, but I can switch between the two if needed.
@Rocket_Boosters2 ай бұрын
interesting. so the opening first few shots were filmed with the EM1ii?
@ChrisBaitsonPhoto2 ай бұрын
It was all filmed on that camera.
@Rocket_Boosters2 ай бұрын
ah ok - wasn't expecting that did you do something different with the footage this time? is it my imagination or is it cleaner and more detailed than previous videos of yours?
@ChrisBaitsonPhoto2 ай бұрын
@ yeah basically the EM1 has a video codec with x10 the bitrate of the A7r I was using. So looks better, cleaner, sharper and more detail.

I would like to say I like your photos from this video. However, I can't help but think you might have missed an opportunity to take a few close up (telephoto) shots of the water cascading over the rocks. You may not have had a medium tele lens with you though. It's nice sometimes to have the whole scene like you did, as well as some detail shots from the same location to make a small set to print. Just a thought from an old guy. 👍

If you depend on Live ND you may be disappointed. - It's quite weak. Note the images were in shady conditions. If you are in sun the Live ND simply doesn't cut it. - Live ND is software. In most circumstances it looks like poor post. I've had the OM-1 since its release. When I use it I still use an ND filter. But I mostly don't use the OM-1 anymore. When I shoot m43 I use my EM1.2 which is more reliable. I've shot waterfalls since before digital was available. I would never set out to shoot a waterfall without a good ND filter. My preference is Formatt Hitech. I'm not compensated for my opinions.
@Paul_anderson_creative2 ай бұрын
Sorry, 3rd photo just doesn't work for me. The foreground is competing with the waterfall.. it requires a less dramatic lead-in in iMHO..🙏p.s. the white frame makes it difficult to appreciate the tonality... Perhaps a mid grey..🤷♂️ HTH..🙏

Also, note that you can't wear gloves while using OM-1.
@thatsamshowАй бұрын
The photos are good, but I feel you'd be better off limiting the use of your typical preset, which tends to downgrade many of your photos. If that's your style, crack on and don't listen to anyone! However, if you're using the same preset, perhaps out of laziness, and calling it a day, I'd suggest taking time to edit carefully and craft something more natural.
