With many variations and tying methods available for this one, the Micro Mop allows for some creativity, plus it's an overall quick tie. Have fun with this fly!

The Micro Mop looks like a tasty bloated caddis larva, to me at least. Works great in high and dirty water conditions. I've been tying a variation using the twist technique with 2-3 yarn filaments, but I think the chenile looks much better. Thanks Tim, cool bug.

Hey Tim. Another great vid but, more importantly, the flies you sent me..... I knew straight off one was the Sneak Attack but didn’t know the other one. But now I know! It is The Mop! lol. I’ll try tying this one too (Micro Mop). Thank you for another great pattern dude. Keep them coming and keep keeping safe.

Great video and instruction Tim. I was wondering what size/brand of Ultra chenille you were using for this one. I just picked up some of the Bug Shop ultra chenille, but I would say it's smaller than what you used here. Do you find that the fibers from the chenille stay intact from a cut end even without burning the end? Cheers - Darren

I was curious about the size of the chenille too. My local shop carries hareline dubbin in size micro and that is definitely smaller than what I see here. Would you say that your ultrachenille is a medium?

Hey Tim another good tutorial. I think the mop has gotten a foot hold since your first video in 2016. I talked to Shawn H about the material and Darren from Piscator used it to tie some sucker spawn in one of his tutorials. Looks like good stuff, all the steelhead colors of the glo bug yarn plus it looks plush and more mobile than other chenille. Shawn said it's the strongest chenille you can get. Is that why you don't singe the ends, won't it come apart? Even though I pick up the mop material type stuff in the dollar store when I see it I've not tied or fished them yet. I think it's a cool fly, innovative use of a material to tie an extended body fly. I don't understand the fuss, it's not like it's a clouser ;-) lol! Take care buddy...
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, and thanks for the comments. It's funny you mentioned the ends, because that's what I considered doing. Shawn's father, Ron, mentioned that, but Shawn insisted that they don't fray. I have been using one Micro Mop for the last three weeks and it's still in excellent condition with this material. I may eventually singe some to see if there's a difference, but you know the rule: Less is more! Thanks again, and I hope all is well. Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Things are good, stocking up on tomatoes, peppers and eggplant, lol! Yeah Shawn is a great guy, he filled me in on the material. I'm surprised you didn't get his ready made bodies, maybe not micro enough? I think you mentioned using the mop for warm water species too. Check out Frugal Fly Rodder here on youtube, he has some cool looking patterns using mop fibers. He ties some nice streamers too, plays around with different materials to make patterns.Hey thanks for confirming the strength of the no burn ends. I hear steelies like to chew bubble gum, "Bazooka Joe" himself told me ;o} Ciao paisa'....

The first Mop video I did really is popular, Joe, and it kinda makes me laugh! These are such easy flies...but wow, they catch fish! I was using one last weekend and we were in a tough spot...this pink and black Micro Mop went on, and boom, gorgeous rainbow trout. You know the rule: Give the fish what they want! Ha ha! Thanks, Joe, and I hope all is well. Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Yeah I'm dying to tie and fish some, especially for pan fish, bass, even walleye on bigger jigs. Maybe with a hackle collar, one step over simple. Now there's Dragon Tails... oh boy! Will it ever end, hope not :~D

@TimCammisa

Hi Cuz, there are lots of ways to fish the Mop! One is with an indicator, and I also like to use a tight line technique. While drifting, you can occasionally jig the fly, helping to induce strikes. Good luck with it! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
