Micro Review & Real World Test -- Makita DLM382Z 36V Li-ion LXT Lawn Mower

A short review and real world test of the Makita DLM382 lawn mower.... or Makita DLM382Z Twin 18V (36V) Li-ion LXT 38cm Lawn Mower ...to give it its show name.
Depending on what you're planning to throw at it and whether or not you already have a stash of Makita 18V LXT batteries, this may or may not be a good purchase. It's a bit under-powered. But it's quiet and lightweight.

How was the grass pickup and how is it in the dry? Could you use it like a vacuum to pick up grass debris on a path for example? It looked quite damp when you were cutting and the Worx cordless mower I have doesn’t pick up hardly ANY damp grass… it just blocks and stalls. The area you covered… mine wouldn’t have made it to the end. The batts would have run out well before then.

Grass pickup is OK under dry-ish conditions. You saw in the video how much it gathered on that lawn. I've not tried it on really damp grass though. I think it would struggle a bit, due to wetter clippings being heavier and tending to clump together more and clog things up. As for using it like a vacuum on a path; I think it would just blow clippings out in all directions. Battery lifer is pretty good though. It certainly seems to cover more ground than my Makita cordless strimmer does for the same amount of battery juice.

Apparently it comes with blunt blades. Did you find it straightforward enough to sharpen them before first use?

Yes, the blades do come blunt and with paint over the cutting edges. Probably some health & safety thing or the law about not sending blades through the post. Easy enough to sharpen as it's just a straight bevel. I use a Farmer's File. Only takes a couple of minutes: amzn.to/4fH6Ohe

Purpose of Safety (ignition) Key is to hide it from kids so they don't start the mover by themselves so no need to put more expensive smart electronic.

Hmmm.... fair point. Though it would be just as effective to remove the batteries when not in use..
