Hobby for me too. I stay up late in the garage listening to music and taking apart junk. I try and pre-sort in buckets, then microscrap. I love silver buttons. They are everywhere when you know where to look! gold plated stuff and computer scrap is great. It’s always work to get the tin/ferrous material out of the way. I’m constantly taking iron and aluminum to the yard, but save up the copper and brass and wire for a good payout!

Oh Ian, you must be getting old to let the store sell you Duff beer 😉 We got a heatwave here as well and it's hot in the buses while working on them 😓 My boys learned it by now that when scrapping, it all adds up as a scrappers first comandment.

Reminds me of a time back when I was working on a lot of mobile plant machinery, I used to change batteries, turbos, starter motors and alternators, they never were returned to the works they were just dumped, so I used to collect them up and when I had a van load I would take them to this guy who paid me well for them. I earned a pretty penny from it, I'm not talking a few quid I'm talking big money. So yeah it's definitely worth collecting it up and I didn't even have to do anything to the stuff I collected up.

Thank you for giving what I do a name. I have never heard micro-scrapping either. One of the my next projects is making a copper wire press with 2x4s. I saw a youtube video on it and it looks like a good way to condense a 5 gallon bucket into two smaller copper wire bricks.

Good work mate. Those blunt wire cutters are actually thin sheet metal cutters. They are hopeless for cutting wire even when new but try them on tin sheet and they are great. Looks like your trustee hammer will do most jobs anyway. Keep it up. A great video. Regards

Some other micro scrap is breakers. I have a ton of them for no reason, and I just smash them with a hammer, take all the things I want, and move onto the next one. I have so many I could do it all day and still have more. It’s kinda insane but I’ll take it. I know I’m late but good video.

Ian , I've been at this for years !! lol I have pots of all sorts of stuff all over the place !! Those ferris transformer rings ( I can't for the life of me remember what they are called ) as long as they are magnetic my scrappy takes them in with steel and iron , they have some weight to them and add up quickly, I don't normally mess about with iron as I don't have the space to save it but I keep the heavy stuff . Great vid mate, have a good holiday !!

How much do you make doing this micro scraping? Is it really worth it? Just wondering thats all.
@Man-in-da-shed5 жыл бұрын
Greg Dent Ahhh Greg, that is hard question to answer, if I only made £5 that would be £5 I didn’t have, I make more money per hour in my day job. But I have a desk job, doing this as a hobby, is different it’s almost therapeutic, you wouldn’t do microscrapping to earn a living, you would just go for Weight and volume. But to kind of answer your question, I expect to earn £1k at least over the year, I know street scrappers with a van who easily get £300 a day, but that’s not micro scrapping. Interesting comment thanks
