This is a lovely presentation. Thank you! I work on plate dynamics and have investigated the role of microbes deeply embedded in rock around subduction zones. These are another form of extreme environment where your critters play an unknown role. There is some thought that they my effect speed and angle of plunge, or chemistry of either the melt, or the plume rising up from lower melt This might in turn contribute to formation of useful resources. It is all unknown at this point.
