Is Methyl red, a pH indicator or a reagent? or is both? I don't understand the difference

I would say that it is both. A reagent is used during chemical analysis. How it reacts makes it a pH indicator. I hope this helps :)

So in a starch hydrolysis test, would iodine be a reagent or pH indicator?

I would say iodine is an indicator because it slows you to see if starch has been hydrolyzed, but it is not a pH indicator because it doesn’t change in response to pH
