I find it surprising that the use of water and chemicals is never mentioned in the entire video. Obviously one of the most important ingredients of chip manufacture is the use of hundreds of different chemicals and gasses, yet they are NEVER mentioned at all. ODD.

It’s good for customers considering sourcing their chips for a production line, and Bosch doesn’t have to pay for the marketing. If anything in the video was “news” to your company, then you are not a competitor to Bosch.

@@WANDERER0070 When a Combustion engine car breaks down at least we can go and buy a couple of dollars of parts and fix it ourselves, if the battery in some of these new EVs fails you have to buy a whole new $40k car. Combustion engine cars don't need tons of rare earth minerals mined by children in third world countries, no specialist disposal methods for all the polymers and poisonous materials that can't be recycled like waste from a normal car either. EV's are lose lose on every front for normal people, the only people that benefit are corporations profit margins which is why they are so heavily invested in pushing them on us. I'll stick to my 1980s Japanese sh*tboxes, they produced less pollution in entire 40 year life spans than a single new EV does before it even gets to the road.

@@stykytte you can stick to your sh*tbox boomer but not everyone feels nostalgic to gas guzzlers. EVs are more environment friendly and human rights friendly than gas car could ever be. There are many misconception and false rumours about evs which are bit over blown or obsolete but can easily be debunked. -Though people think battry swapping is the main disadvantage of ev but when you see through an industry and by a modern customers point of view the system actually make sense. - EV batteries will retain 70-80% of their charging capacity even after a decade. And due to more research on this technology now it's improving even more. Nobody keeps their old car for 10 years in any developing or even in some developed countries due to stricter emissions and safety standards by the government. Driving old cars for regular use is more of an American thing. - Evs do use more exotic rare earth minerals and sadly during present time some parts of the world does use child labours. But its improving quite fast. Manufacturers are developing new types of batteries like aluminum and iron ion batteries which could be manufactured in large scale with minimum damage to environment. Also labor standards gets better in any mining industry when it gets a boost and thus more national and international regulations makes the stack holders accountable. Already child mining has decreased in many countries due to tougher standards by the industry. Also when the industry scales child mining will be less viable because because it can't provide same scale as a big mining machine. - Evs are and will be more environment friendly to gas cars no matter how worse ev you are driving.A limited fossil fuel with its sheer mining causes tons of micro and macro environmental problems. In entire solar system only earth has a vast amount of fossil fuel and burning it to travel is the most brain dead logic humanity ever conceived. It may not bother some first world oil mining countries like us and Norway but most of the world relies on imported fossil fuel which providers vastly affects their view on geopolitics. Countries like Russia, Iran, saudi, syria, qatar are using this fossil fuel as leverage to justify their human rights abuse which is far more concerning than a bunch of child labor welding small miner. They use thier minerals to fund all shorts off inhumane activities which all could be avoided if we were just using evs rather than some dinosaur juice burning fart box. Also the transportation of that fuel produces more pollution than carbon generated during the entire manufacturing of an EV. Thus Evs are way more clean and environment friendly than entire oil and car industry. There are some problems with transmission capacity of our grid to handle EV charging but using money in modifying your domestic electricity grid is far more affordable and rational than using it to fund some fossil fuel dictator ship. - Also EVs are no different than a gas car in a design and manufacturing point of view. The only difference is the battery and moters except that all chassis and electronics are same as a normal gas car. Also the material in its battry and moters like lithium, cobalt, nickel can be fully recycled by process like hydrometalurgy and polymetalurgy with no major environmental damage. Actually more players will come to EV recycling market if production increase letting bigger and better recycling industry for everything. So claiming that disposing an EV is more harder than a normal car just because it has all that toxic chemicals or some weird polymer stuff is complete bs. Even it someone wants to use their beloved antique gas car that's not a problem but more and more young generation getting aware of ther personal carbon emissions while traveling which they wants to reduce with latest technology and Evs delever it. We have to accept EV sooner or later it's just going through same face when car went when horse cart riders were mad about ICE car and mechanical loom went through when handloom workers were mad about mechanical loom. Hating evs will only make you a modern Luddite.

I didn't know Bosch ran a fab. Bosch do make a huge variety of MEMS sensors. I always thought fab time was outsourced though. MEMS in it self is amazing, Applied science has a video on heliums effect on a MEMS oscilator which does go over how they are made. Applied science's DLP video is also pretty good additional watching.

The factory has backup generators so they can either wait for the fault to fix or have a controlled shutdown.

power outage is very costly to semiconductors factories... pretty much all wafer in process at the time are ruined. because you also lose vacuum... it can take some machines a day to recover and be qualified to run again. Back up power is for safety lighting, it cannot run the photolithography tools or implanters... or the vacuum pumps.

Having worked both 200mm and 300mm fabs, 200mm is definitely more fun to watch but 300mm is much more efficient. Those robots are always in your way when you're trying to work on the floor

The camera crew were given a tour of a brand new silicon fab plant. There is no way would any cameras or outside visitors would ever be allowed in such a plant once it's in full operation. Security is very tight at such factories. They may not be as critical as TSMC/AMD but critical enough to be considered a national security asset. The funny thing is, several nations national security is dependant on what happens to Taiwan.

It's for cleanliness first and foremost, for ESD protection you don't need a full body suit like that.
