its fun to see when hank slips back in to his normal voice because he gets too excited

My jackfruit tree just died because of fungal disease. It was painful to see this because it's my favorite fruit. It was too late when we detected the infestation. We thought it was root rot and treatment was wrong and then from a closer look on the tree bark you can see small perforations. It's rainy season now so fungal bloom is more apparent. Finally, the kind of fungus was in full view. It was cloud ears. Silver lining is that I don't need to buy mycelium for my mushroom culture. Cloud ears or what we call tainga ng daga (rat's ears) is a delicacy for noodle dishes. My revenge for this microorganisms is I will consume them as it consumed my tree. Survival of the fittest eh.

Eating something whose life cycle involves eating another creature from the inside out - and having already seen it do just that - would make me kinda nervous ngl. I don't think I could eat mushrooms comfortably if I'd just seen them kill one of my plants...

It would be so insane to be able to see bacteriophages someday. They basically seem like something straight out of a sci-fi movie about Aliens using a passive way to take over a new environment.
@IanGrams Жыл бұрын
When you say "see", does using an electron microscope count? If so, that is already possible and with pretty impressive detail. If you search "PMID: 30886360" the images in that paper are made using cryo-electron tomography which is like a CT scan but with electrons instead of X-rays. Some of the images have a 10nm scale bar which is wild to see.

And on the subject of fungi, does there exist a fungus that acts as a parasite on *another* fungus?
@petergray2712 Жыл бұрын
The genus Trichoderma parasitizes other fungi, including several species that produce diseases in commercial crops. They attach themselves to the hyphae of these fungus, producing a class of peptides called peptaibols that allow them to penetrate the cell walls of their hosts, and they grow inside them.
