I am very grateful for this video. I had never stayed until the end of a video with a scientific topic like this one (without pictures and animation). Your voice and intonation are perfect for this type of content. Go on, you're doing great!

I think a prevalent modern day selection pressure is addiction - nicotine, alcohol, the opioid crisis.

Selection pressure in this pandemic is -mental health issues, depression, stress.
@DrWendi3 жыл бұрын
yes! Different people have more or less genetic predisposition to various mental health issues, those that are more predisposed to major depression or addiction are more likely to be suicidal or overdose before they reproduce. Covid is a great example of an extreme change in the environment that will now impact multiple phenotypes.

Believing in prayer vs medical care. The pressure is applied by ministers and by desire to be accepted by their peers. Also trusting alternative medicines e.g. horse antiparasitic pills to treat covid and avoidance of vaccinations. These people are probably less able to avoid peer pressure so it may be a psychological weakness. I suppose this could be inherited? Not sure.

What is the biggest example, of micro evolution, that’s happened in recent times? Would love to know, thanks.
@DrWendi2 жыл бұрын
The biggest and easiest example would be antibiotic resistance in bacteria :)

Covid-19 is a very current selection pressure (especially heavy on those in our older populations)
@DrWendi3 жыл бұрын
I was hoping someone would mention covid, only because I want to point out that factors that affect death AFTER the age of reproduction, don't actually impact microevolution. Weird right? Because the elderly people that die from anything, such as covid, or heart failure or cancer, they have already reproduced and passed on their DNA. So a selection pressure is something that affects the younger portion of the population before they reproduce and pass on their genes :)

@@DrWendi so what is the age of reproduction and is that age not dynamic and fluid meaning people are having children later and the age of puberty due to enviornment is changing as well
@DrWendi2 жыл бұрын
@@dom_xi-dzopa720 yes, the average age of reproduction in humans has been changing over time, humans in developed countries tend to have children when they are older now compared to even 50 years ago. Many factors affect the ave reproduction age, generally higher economic status, higher education, better healthcare system, less infant mortality, correlate with older age of reproduction :)

also there are 4 different Giraffe species. science just found out a few years ago but sure locals that had means to travel may have deduced that. Also epigenetics and how homo sapiens supposedly killed off all the other homos is seldom spoken of because it leaves glaring inconsistencies even to the layman/wombman.

THE first edition of darwin's for some reason famous book he used creation and then it was changed to evolution only significant in the reason he changed it maybe selection pressures from colonizers

At first it was used to claim how blacks were less evolved, can't claim that when all is from Adam and Eve LET MY PEOPLE GO
