exciting to see the expansion of the camera into the phone. I can see this as a HUGE benefit to be able to set up the entire camera using the phone and save camera settings and custom modes with the phone. As some times it's quite cumbersome to go through the menu and custom stuff. Much easier to do this on the phone and then send over multiple camera setting profiles and custom menu items and re ordering! love it.

Pumped that this is coming to G9ii. I actually didn’t expect to use real time lut. I like editing and the whole straight to jpeg is a thing I rarely use. BUT what I never expected was what a difference it would make to have my fav lut in the view finder when shooting. So inspiring.

I think that’s a great point and something a lot of people overlook. You can get your look on the back of the screen, even if you’re shooting raw and going to do the full edit afterwards, being able to preview your desired style is huge. Also, if you’re taking photos for a client or portraits/wedding etc. you can show them the back of your screen and they’ll be able to see a pretty finished look. Inspiring is the right word

Yes! If you single tap (don't long hold) on the LUT in your list, you can share it. It'll be a zip file and you can send it to Google drive for example

Wow, amazingly thorough video. The app seems to be the first user friendly camera companion app ever made by any brand. I can't believe it took sooo long, but atleast, it's here! I have one feature request though. At 16:33 , it would be nice to be able to keyframe the position of the vertical framing. Similar to insta 360 framing tools.

Great tutorial! I didn't realise that Lumix effectively took Fuji film sims and recipes to the next level. I love my Fuji, but if this real-time LUT and app were to appear on small body M43 cameras it would be so tempting. I bought an Olympus Pen E-PL8 to get a feel for M43 and a love how insanely tiny the lenses are, but I just miss my Fuji recipes too much and can't quite get the same from my Olympus.

I was curious about this but use Fuji. Fuji really needs the ability to transfer and edit and apply simulations in the app. I love how you could transfer to the camera from LR then get it to your phone so it’s consistent throughout.

QUESTION: When using Real Time Lut + a lut downloaded from Lumix Lab App, why are photos taken with the LUT, smaller...in the size of 7MB or so ?! Have you seen that ? If not, try it when you get a chance. Just trying to understand what's going on IN camera, and the science of it all. When I take photos normally, still in JPEG...the file sizes from a standard or regular in camera color profile...images are anywhere from 17 --22MB.

Excellent video, demonstrates the workflow possibilities very well. As a former Fuji custom film sim shooter now converted to the S5, I am awaiting the release of the iOS app. I know the S5 won't be able to use the luts in-camera, but for the heck of it I'm going to see if I can install the Lumix Lab app on my M2 Mac Mini and play around with S5 files on my desktop. Because why not :)

So many questions: In the chapter on editing phone photos you have already taken (@ 11:20) are you applying the LUTs to jpgs, raw or both? (I'm thinking jpgs as duh, raw files.) And does it keep your original version on your phone as well as the LUT version, or does it overwrite it? And given the screen size of most phones, do you think it would be easier to do all of this on an iPad instead?

Only Jpegs at the moment, and it'll just make a copy once you export it from the app. I bet a tablet app would be brill!

I tried to upload my Luts onto my S9 thru an SD card, but none of my empty sets would allow me to "Load." It was grayed out, so I had to upload them thru the Lumix Lab app.

However, when i import them into lightroom classic, the LUT only shows up in the library tab but when i hit develop OR export, the LUT disappears?? do you have issues with this?

Is that with a raw file? The LUT will only "bake in" on the jpeg so that might be what youre seeing

It is coming via an update. The lumix Lab stuff is currently exclusive to the S9 camera at the moment but will be rolled out to s5ii, g9ii etc eventually (soon, hopefully!)

So when it's in the app, in the "device" section, you have a share arrow at the top. You can store it onto a Google drive etc to get it off your device there 😊

Hi, excellent tuto. your streetwise-N is one the best of the lumixlab LUT!! :). I have a quick question : I know how to create .CUBE OR .VLT LUTS, use them as a real time lut... some options like highligh/shadows or contrast are not modifiable but your streetwise-N is like a regular stills color profile based on #NAT color profile then 100% modifiable. How can we edit a lut dedicated to stills and not video? I tried but I'm anaible to edit create one. thanks

I have a question about the downloadable luts, a lot of them say "base style xyz" does that mean I need to do lut 1 = the base style xyz and then lut 2 overlaid on top is the one that I'm downloading? For example if I want to use your streetwise-C lut, it says base photo style cinelike D2. So in camera, I should set lut 1 as cinelike D2 and lut 2 as streetwise - C?

Real time lut is a feature on the newer lumkx cameras, so the g9ii, s5ii, s5iix, and the s9. The s9 has all the features I go through in this video, and the other cameras listed should be updated soon 😊

No Lightroom won't take LUTs unfortunately

I suppose in most cases this is fine especially if you've used your presets to create the LUTs. You would only be missing out on a LUTs you've downloaded from someone else on lumix lab app. Thanks for replying

I'm really struggling to decide! For Jpeg focused photo taking, focusing on street photography, portraits and travel/social photography, would your pick this against Fujifilm x100vi? I want to pull the trigger today or tomorrow as I need the camera for my next holiday but can't decide! The S9 LUT system and not to worry about post edit + the fact you can go crazy with lenses (like the ones you recommend on your channel) is so tempting... but almost everyone online is saying S9 is a scam and x100vi is much better :(

Well the S9 definitely isn't a scam haha it has disappointed a few people because they were wanting and expecting a new full frame flagship, and not a smaller form factor one. Why that is somehow the cameras' fault I've no idea 😂 I did a video of the x100v recently, in case you haven't seen it yet. Not the same as the VI of course (lots of improvements there!) But I think it boils down to whether you want flexibility with lenses and better video features (S9) or fixed focal length and very nice build quality and a great photo-centric experience (x100 cameras)

@SamTFLOH I've never used the VI... with the larger sensor you can crop in a lot more as a "workaround" for the single lens. But yeah, the s9 is really good and more versatile. Perfect? No. But a super fun camera that gives great image and video quality

The only videos it will import are the mp4 lite videos, which (annoyingly!) Is only on the S9 currently. It definitely should have been included in the gh7 in my opinion

You can add LUTs into the s5ii, but i dont believe it is compatible with the Lumix Lab app yet. So gettng the luts on the camera is the same as in this video for the s5ii but the lumkx lab stuff isnt compatible yet. I am pretty sure it'll get rolled out to s5ii, g9ii etc soon. It makes sense to unify the range!

I also have an S5, but from what I've seen it seems like it should be possible to at least add S5 image files manually (or any image file I guess) into the app, so long as it's in the device's photo gallery. At about the 11:30 mark, Emily takes a photo with the phone camera, then edits that image in the Lab app. It would be interesting if Emily tried adding any image file manually to see if this would work. I have an iPhone, so I'll have to wait to see if it works or not in the iOS version.

I have converted color io luts to “generic LUT 33” and whenever I load them into Lumix the app crashes. doesn’t matter what I do. The app overall feels very buggy Any idea what I can try?

Hmm, that should have done the trick. Have you made sure there's no spaces or characters in the file name? But even then it shouldn't make the app crash

@@MicroFourNerds Yeah, I did. But now I instead loaded them onto an SD card the into the camera, like you did and then it worked fine. So again, I think its the app that's just buggy. It overall gives of a feel of not really being finished. Hopefully Panasonic updates it soon. I mean, WHY can't we edit RAW photos in the app? I can do it in the camera but not in the APP?! And it also exports downsampled photos. I mean come on :D Thanks for your video anyway! :) It helped me.

Hi, turns out I discovered that Canon had similar "LUT" capabilities since at least 2015, with their picture styles editor. But it says a lot that I had to dig around to find where this editor was, how to upload to a Canon M200 *which does support them*. Why on Earth Canon hasn't pushed this to the forefront with an easy workflow like what Panasonic is trying to do with the S9 now is beyond my comprehension- in an are of Fuji/Rico "Film recipes" and the S9. Turns out you have quite a bit of control in the curves, colors and after the digging I did, turns out even the "lowly M200" supports them. Complete facepalm. Talk about dropping the ball. I literally had to download a utility from their USA website (supported, known) but the pictures styles editor from Canon UK (was not in the USA at all). Maybe they dropped it because they felt it was too complicated? I wonder.

Lumix seemes to be making sure their users can use thier phones with the cameras. The lumix image app was good the new app is even better and now the lap. Being able to edit on your phone on the go. Means less carring of laotops. And straight to any social meida platforms. Almost like what the Dji drone up does an some go pro.
