When I was like 11 or something, i got a 200 in 1 electronics kit. which was basically just a box with a load of discrete components in it, all connected to little springs then a bunch of different length wires, and a book with 200 different circuit in it. What was interesting was that a bunch of the circuits were for making sound things or like one was for an organ that you playing by colouring in a sheet of paper with a thick line of 4B pencil, and you could just connect the wires to different places to screw with the sound in tons of different ways, was lots of fun.

todroyas it's a very solid investment as a standalone synth. However, make sure it fits your style. Compare it's sound to others in similar price ranges, like the Moog Slim Phatty, the Korg Monologue, and the Arturia Microbrute. Lots of people say "get a modular". It's totally true it's nearly infinitely more flexible and useful, but since there's no "complete" stage of a Modular it's easy to get sucked into a money hole. As well, from a musical perspective modulars bring 3 or 4 times the power of other instruments, so if you just want to perform a synth line you can go down a rabbit hole SO fast. But it does open complete;y new ways to compose. :) And regardless to all of this, please look into DIY, like Music From Outer Space. You can save tons of money and learn skills you could get solid jobs with.
