Hey Corey, just wanted to say thank you for making these videos. I spent my downtime at work listening to your microgreens tutorials this past winter, and was inspired to start my own business when we all got laid off recently! Your methods and videos are always straight to the point and so helpful; keep doing what you’re doing and know you are helping this fellow NH native out in Oregon, along with so many others 🙏 We appreciate you

What is the shelf life is like with the packaging vs the old package? Do you problem with condensation? How do you store you vegetables after harvesting? Do you use regular fridge or commercial fridge to store microgreens? Do you know at what temperature and humidity?
@CoreysCave
@CoreysCave 3 жыл бұрын
Marcus Sewell I expect the shelf life to be the same. I make sure the Microgreens are dry when harvesting to avoid condensation. I use a regular fridge.

@@CoreysCave I made my first delivery about two months ago and the guy told me my vegetables never last long in his commercial cooler. I was surprised by this after I gave away 30 samples and no one told me it spoiled. I have some nice container. I don't use clamp shelf. The type of box I use is have paper and half plastic. I put napkin at the bottom to make sure if condensation take place some thing is there to counter the moisture.

The side labeling looks more attractive, but customers cannot see all of them at one glance. Do you plan on posting signage with arranged stacks so they don't need to touch any container let alone multiple ones to check what's inside? We're still trapped in this virus hysteria, and all states are not fully reopen. This can impact interstate commerce, but it sounds like you've had problems with FedEx before this mess. Suggest figuring out how they normally deliver your packages: FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery, or FedEx SmartPost. See if the vendor can designate another one if you must use this carrier. For FedEx Express, the drivers are FedEx employees. For FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery, all their routes are outsourced to independent contractors who hire their own drivers. For FedEx SmartPost, the USPS delivers. The first three list on the truck which one they are. Over the years, my small number of FedEx deliveries have come via FedEx Express. I have had no problems with them. The vast majority of my deliveries have been via UPS. All their drivers are company employees. For a long time, UPS has outsourced some deliveries to USPS. I have had no problems with either one delivering though I did cringe the first time I saw it handed off to the post office. Not too long after COVID spread in the US, the federal government signed contracts with all the carriers to give them head of the line privilege. During the lockdown, one of my shipments that normally arrives in 3 or 4 days suddenly took almost 3 weeks. At every hub exchange, it sat for days rather than hours. If something is taking too long, suggest talking to the delivery driver if you can. (S)he may be aware what's disrupting service.

Hello! I've been interested in a long time with growing my own microgreens. I don't plan on selling full force at first. Just sell extra each batch locally to friends to see how it goes. So I searched for information on the best way to package. I found your video. Great video! Thank you for the information. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I had a couple of ideas as I was watching this video. You possibly have updated what you use & I haven't looked yet. But I wanted to ask if you had ever thought of using the clear dozen egg cartons? They stand sort of tall & you can put wooden garden stakes or tongue depressors (cut in 3 pieces) to tell what each sprout bunch is. Then you will have 4 egg slots for each different product. Or seperate however you want. But the garden stakes will let them know what each bunch is. Then I had an idea for your labels. I'm from South Louisiana. We have King cake season each January until Fat Tuesday or Ash Wednesday. The companies put every flavor they make on box. (You put every sprout on each label. For the multi sprout labels) Then take a permanent marker, (Because on outside) or some small round stickers if you don't do markers. And use that to mark what is in each box. You don't have to put anything on outside, or side of box. They are labeled on inside. You could even do this with all of your labels. Even the single use labels. Just mark which one is in each box by checking the sprout part on label. The 3 compartment boxes could even have the little stakes in them too. I'm not sure if this is way to much to do. Another idea. You could even get full sheet Xerox paper. Print out a whole page of each sprout. Then laminate & make stakes like that. If laminate is food safe. Laminate machines are as little as $19 on Amazon. They make clear Xerox paper. (Like I said, need to see if food safe.) But I know that the wood tongue depressors or even plastic garden stakes are. And ONE more option is they have waterproof & regular sticker paper for essential oil bottle tops. You can preprint and or color coordinate dots with label on top. For instance, if the small round labels are too small to print the sprout name, and depending on how many sprouts you sell. When you print sprout names on front. Give each sprout a different color. Then just make sheets of the dot stickers in the coordinating color. Then just put sticker on stake. I hope I'm not confusing you. But I'm just a wife/Mom & my mind goes NUTS with ideas sometimes. Probably too much! Lol. I just wasn't sure of the volume you put out & if you needed shortcuts other than just writing each sprout on the stakes. Lol. I look forward to watching other videos! And ONE MORE option is have you ever looked at Ali Babas website? They have TONS of companies & they will cater to your businesses needs. (Pre labeling & possibly making you some containers fitting your needs.) And try Etsy too. Etsy has alot of people that make & sell containers. Gosh. My mind is going crazy with ideas. Amazon sells all size solo cups with tops, containers. 1/2/3/4 ounces. You could get flat (no separation inside) clear container boxes & put the sprouts in the containers & put them inside the bigger container. Then still have label with check off the sprout on top. And just put a cheaper preprinted sticker on solo cup inside. Not sure if that would be cost efficient. But those solo cups aren't too bad if you buy in bulk. They even have large rolls of food grade cellophane. Just stack solo cups & cover in cellophane & tie at the top with garden rope or kitchen rope. You can buy that in bulk too. Then attach a label to the rope. (Hole punch) or sticker label on front. Ha ha! I guess I've given you enough reading material for the rest of your life. But you DID ask for ideas. Lol. If anything, maybe it will give you a better idea on what to do. 😂😬😜❤

Hi Corey, great and educational video! One question I was hoping you could answer - Would you recommend packaging microgreens in vacuum seal bags? I could not find much information online around this. Some say it's OK, others advise not to due to oxygen deprivation and the fact that some plants emit gasses ( Cruciferae and Brassicaceae families)? Any thoughts? Cheers!
