-------------------------
Sound comparison between Edifier R1280T and Microlab B77. Testing Microlab was a suggestion of one of viewers as a viable alternative to Edifier R1280T (and even to R1700BT, but we will check that later) and I have to admit that in many regards it is better than Edifier, especially in quality and clarity of midrange and high end. Edifier manages to fights back with superior, if more boosted, bass response. Microlab is better choice to those looking for balanced, neutral and natural sounding speaker. Edifier is better suited for those listening to music with lots of bass heavy content, eg. Hip-Hop and Electronic music. What do You think? Which one would You choose? Let me know in the comments below!

I bought the model with Bluetooth (B77BT) and omg, these speakers sounds amazing! Midrange and treble are crisp clear and the bass is very good, they're very deep for 4" woofers. Overall, the sound is very balanced and I'm very happy with it. Also, the price I paid was less than half of its equivalent model from Edifier (R1280DB). I like Edifier products, however in my country they're way overpriced.

Tmj. www.tropicaudio.com.br/es/mini-bookshelf-ta-35-4-pol

I've got B77 speakers here. They are indeed very decent and when using the right equalization (not just the knobs, but using an equalizer) they really shine. Can't say anything about edifier for not having one, but given the price I paid for the B77 I'm more than happy with 'em. One thing is for sure however: edifier has a brand name and does not ALWAYS deliver THAT much quality. Microlab is not known by most people, but so far I've seen it performing very well in different products and setups.

It was surprising for me but microlab has better mids and high than "legendary" edifier, so in fact, Microlab has much more clear and detailed sound. I guess that is more important for small computer speakers. Edifier has better bass but all other frequencies sounds like from some cheap wooden box. Anyway bass from small edifier is far from ideal, so it means they sounds bad in all frequency range. Thanx for this comparison!

I do not have the use to comment on personnal evaluations, as this kind of stuff is subjective...but some internal revolution made me talk....for the first time. There's no advantage to have clear and loud treble into small speakers.... treble very loud and clear you can obtain with a speaker driver alone....just the speaker.... What is hard and what is briliant...was is awesome?....to reproduce deep bass inside a very small enclosure...this is almost magic with at toy speaker....so...in my point of view... backed by 57 years of experience and deep skills in audio.... Edifier was clear the winner without no chance to the competition...i fully disagree with this evaluaton where Digital Stereophony told such kind of absurd. Winner to play louder treble?... buy a single 87 db driver?

Hi Carlos. If You really would want to know what do I think about B77 You would go and have a look at my full review (link is pinned in the comment section) where I go into details about B77. Proper balance between the treble midrange and bass is what I am looking for in a speaker, and loud treble is not. B77 has higher quality tweeter that does treble better than the one in R1280T. B77 also has better quality of midranges where R1280T has some issues around the crossover point resulting in big nulls in midrange. Bass response is the most impressive feature of R1280T and one has to admire Edifier for what they accomplished here, but overall it is B77 that is more balanced and more natural sounding speaker, where R1280T relies too much on bass and sounds artificial in midranges in comparison to B77. That is my opinion in short. Cheers!

Did you hear any background noise as well? Mine started to make a loud and very annoying background noise after a week of use that only for when pairing with a bluetooth device. From what I've researched several people complain about the same problem. It is a shame that Microlab has not corrected those problems that were already recurring in the model without bluetooth, the sound is really good, it would be a box with a legendary cost x benefit.

As a previous owner of Microlab I am not that surprised that the speakers are virtually non existing. I thought the company was closed. Advertisement is everything and Edifier is the most known alternative to the big boys. And usually Edifier stays as the small outsider. You can imagine Microlab. Micro what!? That's why I was once a proud owner of a hidden jewel. I like how people think sometimes. It is easier to go to the other side.
@DSAUDIOreview
@DSAUDIOreview 7 жыл бұрын
It is much easier to go for what is heavily advertised. It is not the best route, but I understand why most people just do not want to bother with research. Regarding Microlab, they had their time when Solo 6C and Solo 7C was fresh to the markets, but I think they lost their chance by not introducing more interesting models. Edifier, on the other hand, is good example of thriving company. They always seem to refresh the old models and introduce new ones often to keep the market interested, they are also not afraid venture into more premium offerings.

Blz?!

Hi! Actually Edifier is pretty bassy. It is boosted quite a bit compared to speakers, like B77 or Presonus Eris E4.5, that are more balanced. It is not a big fault as it makes them more enjoyable so if I was looking for budget speakers with good bass they would be on my list. But if I was looking for more balanced budget speakers with good midrange and nice treble than I would chose B77. Cheers!

I measured my Edifier R1000T4 (very similar to the R1280T) and they were reasonably flatish (+/- 4db) from 200 to 15khz. Bass extends until around 70-80hz. This seems to confirm the chart provided by the manufacturer, so I'd trust them. Below 200hz the freq. response was kinda crazy, but this was certainly due to my room, which is not treated. There seems to be a significant bump in neutral settings around 100-150hz though, lowering the bass just a bit on the speakers seems to help. But these are definitely not good enough for studio work of course, unless you're just a hobbyist trying to get into it. Actual studio monitors will give you much better results, either in frequency or in transient response, they're in another league entirely.

For basic stuff, you can try to mix/produce on them. It's interesting to have good headphones on the side to check how things are going time to time, and when finished you should check how it will translate in other systems you own too (and adjust the mix later accordingly, it will be needed). But if you wanna get serious, you should buy studio monitors, either of these are far from ideal. To play the guitar, you'll need a guitar amp, not bookshelf speakers like these. But you can plug a guitar in your computer using an audio interface then use amp simulator software. In this case these speakers would be enough.

Does b77 have mids in front? Is it a good choice for heavy metal? Tks!

B77 has nice clear midrange that is a bit forward. It is very good choice for metal, much better than R1280T IMO. Cheers!

It is not a monitor per se, but in my opinion it would work better as a monitor than anything in this price range. For example it is much better monitor than Mackie CR3 IMO

Never heard the B77 but r1280T would have been a great set if it had been properly amped/eq corrected (the integrated amp, while great at power efficiency, sounds mediocre and does appear to use some eq correction tuned to a questionable taste) I hooked mine to an old class ab kenwood 100w*2 hifi amp, used room eq wizard with a calibrated mic and Dmg equilibrium , and I much prefer them to the lower end hifi bookshelves I've heard. I think on some days/material I prefer their sound to my Lsr 305.
@DSAUDIOreview
@DSAUDIOreview 7 жыл бұрын
That is interesting finding I have to say. I would never guess R1280T had any chance to compete with JBL, but I have to trust Your opinion. Good job on taking You time to investigate the possibility of tuning the sound of R1280T though. Cheers!
@john2335
@john2335 7 жыл бұрын
It's not that they're objectively competitive with the lsr but they can sound fun for recreational listening with a bunch of (ended up with 10 peak filters) eq compensation. The jbl only needs 3 bands for low end room compensation, their 300hz+ range is passable out of the box.

In a simple way, Microlab has a greater depth and extension in the treble and middle, a better definition as well. However, the bass is "lowest" and does not reach the ground, while Edifier "forces" the bass a little. So if you want a worse definition but more bass, Edifier is better. But if you want quality and a greater tonal balance, Microlab without a doubt. Hey, from Brazil.

Great comparative work, sounds like the Edifiers really hold their own as far as complete range of frequency and brilliance, until this comparison with the Microlab B77 I found the Edifiers superior in range, with the B77 it is relative to taste if you can tell the difference between the soft dome tweeter of the B77. Thanks for putting this out there.

Pozdrawiam!
