Dude, that was a GREAT video introduction, genuinely

I now use REW to do all the things I did with holm impulse, it seems with REW the TA is much clear with REW.
@RAW-CAt Жыл бұрын
I will have to try that as well.

You pronounced my name perfectly fine. :) And Smaart can calculate average phase from the different mics. You just use a virtual averaged mic from the 7 real mics. You will have a phase response for this averaged response, too. Obviously you shouldn't use this phase information for phase aligning drivers though. If you use REW make sure that you use the RMS/DB average for EQ work. You will loose phase information with RMS/DB averages, but it's much closer to a moving mic average. The vector average though will calculate the phase response for the averaged response, but vector averages weigh the dips and peaks the same, which when used for EQ work, give you a false tonality.
I took the smaart advanced class and Jamie showed us frequency responses of multiple measurement mics of different prices. Even the cheapest ones don't really need a calibration file. They have a very similar frequency response up until about 15khz compared to the more expensive options. If you want precision after 15khz you'll have to spring for the earthworks mics that are accurate to 23khz and up. So if you're referencing all your mics to that another cheap one that's not accurate that high then it's not really doing much

When you take into consideration that people out age hear only up to 16-17kHz, I think the cheapest mics will be fine🙃

Great content! Btw I recently bought the same Behringer mic and wondering if I have to calibrate it if it'll be only used for time alignment?
@RAW-CAt11 ай бұрын
No, not really. For ta calibration is not needed.

At what frequency response does doing this not matter since the wavelength will be bigger than the array or moving the microphone? I’m assuming roughly 300 hz and below.
@RAW-CAt11 ай бұрын
According to my tests the differences start to show at 180-200Hz.

I thinking what about measurement without driver. I know that Andy inform that target curve (audiofrog) is created without driver, but I think that is not good.
@RAW-CAt Жыл бұрын
I think it would be cool to try both ways and compare.
@DevinderAthwal306 Жыл бұрын
This is what I was thinking as the driver will be at different distances to the drivers and that would have an impact of the sound.

Hi friend, i want to buy a calibration microphone but i couldn’t decide yet. Which one do you prefer for me. Behringer ecm 8000 or Dayton Audio Umm-6 Behringer is around 60-70 euros and the Dayton Audio Umm-6 is around 130-140 euros here… I will use for my system setup only. My system is 3 way active front speaker with p six and 12” sealed box with mono amplifier. Many thanks

Behringer does not have a calibration file, so I would buy the dayton.

Do you think it is worth building a 3 mic array? I have a 4 channel interface so would just have to buy 2 more mics.
@RAW-CAt11 ай бұрын
Yes, get two more mics, it will.be easier and faster to upgrade to 7 later on😉

I’m curious how mic array measurements compare to binaural dummy head measurements. I saw an interview the other day with Andy at audio frog where he’s about to release his own binaural head for about the same price as an array setup. I’m no expert but one advantage I think is apparent with a binaural head is that HRTF is taken into account with the measurements. Anyway I’m really looking forward to your next set of videos. Very cool and interesting stuff you’re covering. Thanks.
@RAW-CAt Жыл бұрын
I thought that the binaural head by Audiofrog is just for recordings, not Tuning🤔
@DevinderAthwal306 Жыл бұрын
@@RAW-CAt there is also BARNIE by Mosconi that is used for tuning.
@ericekernd9165 Жыл бұрын
I am curious how a binaural measurement method would compare as well. I don’t see how 2 stationary, in-car measurements, can be combined/averaged to give any sort of repeatable result. I could be wrong, but move the head 3 inches and the individual mic responses probably look dramatically different. You really need 3 measurements to even start weighting an average.
