In this lecture, we will study Micropropagation in Plant Tissue Culture.
Micropropagation is a plant tissue culture technique used to produce large numbers of genetically identical plants from a small piece of plant tissue, such as a shoot tip or a bud.
It is also called clonal propagation because plants derived from micropropagation are genetically similar to mother plants (clones) and are produced as an asexual reproduction method.
Stages of Micropropagation:
Stage 0: Selection of Explant.
Stage 1: Culture Initiation and Establishment.
Stage 2: Shoot Multiplication.
Stage 3: Rooting of the shoot.
Stage 4: Acclimatization of Tissue Culture Plantlets.
Methods of Micropropagaton:
This can be occur by:
1. Multiplication by axillary bud and apical shoot.
2. Meristem Culture
3. Embryo culture
4. Anther culture
5. Ovary and Ovule culture
6. Protoplast Culture
7. Suspension Culture
8. Callus Culture
