MicroProse Golf (PC/DOS) 1992 "David Leadbetter's Greens"

MicroProse made a change from military simulations by recreating golf in fine detail. This was the first golf game to operate in true 3D. This means that the player's stance and swing technique can be adjusted, and have a significant effect on the shot outcome. Although the manual's tutorial helps, it's harder to master than rivals such as PGA Tour Golf. I am a proud owner of your game in its original big box! Sorry to ask but I just played the game for a retro experience (in DOSBox). My partner in a tournament is stuck hitting a tree and cannot break out, so I cannot continue the tournament. Any advice on how to recover to a shot prior to this (maybe via the VCR)?

@@mikemicale Hi Mike. Thank you for getting back to me! I also am a fan of Micro Prose but most of my games were played on the Atari 800XL, The Commodore 64, and the Amiga. I still play Micro Prose Golf on the Amiga but recently discovered the PC/Dos version. The Amiga version came with 6 courses and better sounds. The PC/Dos version I am playing has 4 courses, better graphics, and David Ledbetter! To me, this is the most realistic golf game ever because of several factors; I love the 3 views of the green, the fact that you can choose a putter anywhere, and the fact that punch and chip shots, as well as draws and fades, are all set by changing the positioning of your feet. Today's golf games have incredible graphics, but you choose your shot type (fade, draw, chip, punch) by pressing a key, and some allow you to add ball spin while the ball is in flight! C'mon now! Unfortunately, the only manual I have for this is the Amiga version, which plays kind of the same, but has different menu options. What I really struggle with on the PC version is creating and choosing players, and I would love to be able to play online, which I hope the modem play might allow, so if you have an electronic version of the manual, that would be so awesome! Also, one of the PC reviews I read said there were 6 courses. Is this true? Would love to hear from you and if you are on Facebook or Messenger I can reach out to you directly. By the way, I also have been stuck under the bushes on Mountsummer Point and have had to restart my round. thank goodness that is the only course that has happened on!

This game was waaaay ahead of time - just look at the other golf games from 1992-1993.. In 1994 we finally got some competition :)

Golf games in Japan were streets ahead, check out the "New 3D Golf Simulation" series, 1989-1992, by T&E SOFT for NEC PC-9801. Mega Drive got some nice low resolution ports of those in 1993.

Amiga version had realistic sound. I never new it was on DOS also. Both versions very different menus. Same GFX.

I played the Amiga version for decades before playing it on DOS PC. Better sounds and 6 courses on Amiga, but 4 courses on PC with better and smoother graphics plus the addition of David Ledbetter.

The only thing that the game assumes is that you know how to swing. Everything else is available to control, including grip and stance (even the angle of your feet). I'd love to see this game remastered with modern graphics rather than playing the current arcade-ish golf games that are available. When you hit the sweet-spot in this game, you knew it without sparkles and dramatic music.
