This is interesting. I have a 40X AO objective that has oil infiltration that I'd like to work on. I got the back piece off and the insert. However, the next step doesn't work. Do you by chance know how to get the front element off a 40X? Unfortunately 40X are the objectives that most often need work because they are long and right next to the oil immersion objectives.

I’ve got the same thing going on with my Olympus MPlan Apochromatic 60x. It’s a great objective but has oil infiltration because the previous users didn’t take care of it.

Out-of-focus possibly at a threaded or slip-on component/ possible misalignment.

+cường nguyễn chí Find a dozen soft cotton tipped items that fit inside the tube. Clean with plenty of water or a lens cleaner solution. If dirt is removed with just minimal amount of liquid, it will skate along the glass and scratch it. Dirt is abrasive and hard. Lens could be plastic or glass, but both can get scratched. Dirt removal needs a thick enough liquid film to lift the dirt off the surface. First, rinse off most dirt by filling the tube halfway and shaking the tube with its open end covered. repeat 2-3 times. Then swipe in one direction only and go around in a circle once without overlapping you previous track. Don`t go backwards either, both moves re-introduces dirt already removed to the surface. Rotate cotton tipped cleaner while moving forward with it so it always has a fresh surface touching the glass. Dry the lens with fresh cotton tipped sticks, make sure you don`t have any residues or fiber left on the lens. Blowing clean air also helps (dry, water vapour-free clean air sold in a can, not your breath)

I got a 1918 Spencer and it needs it badly. No focus on two of my objective. but jeez man Your scaring me! Scissors?, dont they make a tool for that,? Ive taken a few of those apart. Who am i kidding? i would use scissors also i think i used a knife once, buggered up the threads it was a nightmare. This was a very scary video i was on edge. Looks like your Good tho.

Yup, somebody sure makes a proper, well fitting, safe to use tool for it. I can`t speak to the manual dexterity of our viewers, I just got it done the scary way. Thanks for watching!

@@theoverengineer loved it, Im dreading doing mine. Ive tried cleaning sill just a white dot. its gotta be in between. No good as it is anyway right? scissors is actually a good idea. better than two of something.

- white dot might be dried hard paint? on the surface of lens. Might need different chemical or physical removal.- Instead of scissors, which is always on an angle, sometimes I make a "tool" where the working bits are parallel instead, out of 2 nails and a piece of wood or something ...
@imsidetracted5 жыл бұрын
@@theoverengineer Two nails and a piece of wood is really funny because i have used that "tool" many times. binoculars and a few other things, you have to sharpen them just right.. I never though to use scissors and ill probably try that. Its a great idea and ive got the pair in mind. I stipped wire once with em and they havent been the same since. Although i have made my own paint many times and check everything i make under the scope. but i always use a slide cover. Ive got a brand new Am Scope and as soon as i finish my wood carrying case ill retire my 1918 Spencer. I really like its wooden case and though, but Im stuck at a 15 x eye piece and a 10 x object its still a good scope. thats what? 150x The Am Scope brags a whopping 4000 magnification but seriously 4000? I have yet to check it out and dont even want to take the factory plastic off until my case is done. Because i dont wanna dust, grease, or opaque the lens, I got a scope like that now. Its certainly my fault is a white out. I look at some "different" stuff.

The worse ideea ever...the lenss are protected inside...The only part you need to clean is the part of the objective theat came close to the slide whit isoprpilic alcohol....

Definitely it is for you with your level of attention and manual dexterity in spelling. Just give it to a professional for cleaning.

Hahahaha, thats cute. I recently picked up a travel scope from amscope, BETWEEN lens elements was filthy. So yes, sometimes, it is necessary to disassemble the lens array.
