Thank you. As an American, I actually like listening to people with a British accent. It just sounds so much more intellectual. However I do know what you mean... I often check out video tutorials from other people here on KZbin and a LOT of them put me to sleep too... so I do my best to keep mine entertaining. :)

I greatly appreciate thesse videos! I just got a job as a receptionist, and although I had used several MS programs before I hadn't even hear of Access let alone Access 2010. As a result, after my boss had told me I was going to need to be more then adept at this program, I went online searching, and these are the best videos I have found! Keep up the good work mon ami, I'm sure there are others like me out there.

Finished watching the Beginner Tutorials; absolutely love them: The videos are broken down into small,"digestible" categories. Easy to follow, easy to understand. I already purchased "Beginner Part 2" via the 599cd.com website and watched some: great value for money!

Thanks for the comments. I know that people who are familiar with Access already might find the tutorial too basic at times... but it's supposed to be a beginner tutorial for people with little or no experience with Access. My more advanced lessons don't cover the basics in this much detail.

Expanding/reviewing my basic Access knowledge, as our Community College Business dept. has arganized a new class based on Access and Excel, and dropping Word, and PowerPoint from the particular course. I did Part 1 just now, lots of tidbits that I didn't know, nice concise definitions, and key information. I will be going through all 12 of your tutorials, so i can push for a section of our new course. -- Adjunct Faculty for Business/Computer Science, Joe

I get asked this a lot. It's not for beginners. You can make a message appear on your startup form pretty easily, but anything like this involves a little bit of programming - either a macro or some VBA. I'll be making a TIP video on how to do this soon. It's on my list.

Yep. It's very easy to import your Excel data into Access tables, provided the data in Excel is in a "database-friendly" format (rows and columns all match up).
@599CD12 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome. I've got paid tutorials available as well (on my web site) but I try to give people a good, solid foundation with my free course here on KZbin. Then they can decide if they want to move beyond the basics.

Yes. Excel is good for managing small amounts of data, or for analyzing data (charting, etc.) but once you get into bigger sets of data (hundreds of records/rows) then you really want to move up to Access. Importing data from Excel into Access is real easy.

There are several different ways to handle this. I would use 1 table to track the radios, and a 2nd table to track the transactions of each radio. You could then use domain functions like DLOOKUP to see if a particular radio is available.

Haha, I also wanted to comment on the language - I do prefer British accent though and I get goosebumps when I hear 'innerface' (interface) or 'cenner' (center), but I must admit there is something about the US English- it's definitely more dynamic than UK Eng. ;) Nevertheless, the tutorial is just great! Sometimes too basic (all those 'change the folder clicking this little icon'-like instructions, but I guess it's better this way than the other.),but I do appreciate the course! Thanks a lot :)

I suppose in the BROADEST possible definition, a database is simply a collection of data. I believe I cover this in the tutorial. It can be a card catalog, a phone book, or SQL Server. Since this is specifically a Microsoft Access course, I've narrowed MY definition a little bit to just computer programs... but you're right. A database doesn't necessarily have to be a computer program.

Nice video. I'm not sure if you cover this or not in your other videos, but what is the best way to track assets. Say you have 50 radios, and multiple outside sources borrow these radios for a specific time period. How would you implement a system that would show a specific radio cannot be used due to it being currently in use or reserved for a time period?

You are very thorough, and I desperately need help with Access in my office. Would there be any way that you could help me?
