I am so glad I listened to your video. Great information and very well delivered. The ist video I listened to was done by someone else. It was the slowest more repetative boring lesson I have ever listened to. I could not even finish the first one. Your class is perfect. Right pace and great information. Thank you.

Yes... and that's how most people learn. Books are great for reference. Tutorials - being SHOWN how to do something step by step - are how most people are more comfortable learning.

Thank you. I'll take that as a compliment. He's a very eloquent speaker.

Not with JUST Access. You could use Access as the back-end database server on the web site, but you would still need to code a front-end with a web programming language like ASP. I show how to do this in my Web Database Seminar: 599cd(DOT)com/XPS0ER
@michaeljones853711 жыл бұрын
Maybe it is mostly the learning preference each person has. For me, I find this approach is exactly what I need to get started. The initial explanations are putting the entire subject in a context that is helping me understand what to do and how to do it with Access. Much better than just opening a book; I will use that more for quick reference, once I know what I'm doing.

Thank you for this. I've been putting off building a database for years because I was terrified how to do it and now I am surrounded by loads of excel spreadsheets to track out 3 million plus inventory for our small business. I hope by Christmas I can get this all sorted out and work to increase sales next year by planning better. These videos are exactly what I needed for myself to learn this and not feel so intimidated.
@599CD11 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your feedback. I prefer to give the user enough background to understand what it is they're going to be building - assuming they have no prior knowledge of Access or databases in general. I've been teaching Access since the 90s, and this is the approach I've always taken. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive feedback I've received on my methods for the past near-20 years, I think most people learn best this way. Of course, there are always exceptions. Those people are generally...

This goes WAY beyond this Beginner Access tutorial... but as I mentioned in my last comment, I believe the best solution is to create a web-based database (using Access, SQL Server, or whatever you have) and then code your own custom ASP-based front-end (web pages) for it. Again, I show how to do this in my seminar (see previous post). It's far too complicated to explain it all here.

@599CD11 жыл бұрын
I don't understand your first question. Primary keys are used to uniquely identify each record in your table. Foreign keys are used to create relationships in the secondary tables. I cover these in much more detail in my Access Expert Level 1 class and my Relationship Seminar. I also have a KZbin video on the subject. Search for "Microsoft Access Relational Tables". I hate that we can't post URLs in comments or I'd give you the direct link.

Well, there are many different ways to implement this. I personally would use an online database. Your VB app could check the web site database to see if the user's information is in there. If so, activate the software.

I ask this question because Im not sure if this video series is for me. We currently use MS Access w/ InfoPath. With Access, is there a way to send private information (employee data) to Manager B, who can make real time updates, but also be able to share it with Manager A and C who can also make RT updates. The trick is, no Manager can see their own information. Manager C only see his employees data, Manager B sees Manager C and his emp, Manager A sees B & C and emp.

It's possible, but with Access you'd need to add some security to keep users from seeing data they're not supposed to. It's a lot more advanced than I can explain here, and for a beginner tutorial series like this one. I do have a seminar that covers it, however. See my web site at 599cd(DOT)com/X1HPXD

Hi Richard, I was just wondering if it would be at least a decent idea to use MS Access as a way of Software Protection. Basically I would like to protect my software that I created in VB.Net, have MS Access store the Hardware ID's of those who have purchased my software and if they're Hardware ID's match what's in the database, then the software will activate. Does this sound secure to you? What do you think about this idea? Thanks Ric! - Aaron C. ---------------------

Does this show how to connect to the db with vb.net 2010? If not, could you please refer me over to a learning resource of how to do so or make a tutorial on how to accomplish this? Oh and are you saying that there's a better way of connecting to an online db with the need of MS Access to verify people who have bought my software? What do you think would be best for Software Protection in this case? Thanks...
