This short screencast will explain how to calculate the length of a Short Text field in Microsoft Access so that you can confidently shorten the Field Size property to a reasonable number without losing any data.
The screencast shows how to create a query that creates a calculated field with the Microsoft built-in Len function to calculate how many characters are in a field. It also shows how to sort the query in descending order on the calculated field to find the longest field value.
With that knowledge you can confidently shorten Short Text fields and click Yes to the error message "Some Data May Be Lost" knowing that you will not lose any data.
