Cool! Just skimmed through your video, you probably said it somewhere in the vid, sorry about that. anyway.. When the rig moves, what about the headset? I mean it registers your movement, therefore.. you go up/down/turn left/right in VR as well or not? Not being fixed to the seat of your rig, but relative to the height/position of your headset and floor/room?
@calvrsimer2 жыл бұрын
To avoid what you’re describing, sliding inside the virtual cockpit as the rig moves, we’re using an app that allows for MOTION COMPENSATION. You can see a virtual tracker just above my head to the left, which work with the app to keep me from moving inside the virtual cockpit. Any motion platform coupled with VR would be unusable without MC!

cool rig - just trying to research this DepartedReality myself at the moment. My original idea jumped from being buying the DoFReality, to the SFX100, SFX150 and then variations on this one. I'm a little confused to the quoted price of $8-10k though, when the SFX100 appears to be around £2k (so say up to $3k). Ok there are 2 more actuators of course, but not sure why else the big price jump (but admittedly I still have a lot to learn (unless you're including PC, screens, VR and everything?)
@calvrsimer Жыл бұрын
Your question or any other questions you might have will be best answered by Speegles (the DIY project creator), so for that reason I am inviting you to join his Discord channel (link can be found on the DR website), if you’re really interested! I don’t want to go into too many details, but you CAN NOT compare the SFX100 or 150 kit with the DR actuators meant for a Stewart platform. There are 6 actuators needed (obviously) and they are much longer, you also need additional components required for a 6DOF platform build! I can assure you for having build the platform myself the price estimate is totally fair! I went for DR-DIY-PS600-90ST project (you could reduce the cost with a DR-DIY-PS400-80ST)and the total cost was $11,000 without the cockpit chassis. The majority of components you need are sold by companies other than DR! aka AliExpress, 80/20 (quite expensive), THANOS (controller) and McMaster-Carr! At the time I did it, roughly March 2020, it cost me $1500 just in shipping cost for all the components required! I only bought 3 essential parts from the DR website: 12 end pivots, 1 emergency stop box, and 1 PDU with build-in EMI filter! So 90% of the cost is not DR related! There are no comparison between a 3DOF vs a 6DOF system! I use to have 3DOF system before and the sensations you’re getting with a 6DOF system are absolutely unattainable with a 3DOF! It will be almost a year now that I have had my platform, I use it everyday, it’s an amazing machine, the entertainment value is incredible, and there is not one penny I regret putting into it! If you can go with the DR platform, 100% success guaranteed with amazing help from Speegles, he’ll make sure you are successful with your project! Food for thoughts! Hope this help! : )

Really spectacular build. How much coding did you do for the motion translation?
@calvrsimer9 ай бұрын
None! Ther are motion cues software available that uses the game's motion data to drive the motors servos. The one I'm using in the video is Flypt Mover. You just have to learn how to properly setup the motion cues. There is a bit of a steep learning curve to that effect, but still much simpler than coding yourself. For such DIY project no need to know coding.

This is something else. Instead of say 20 lessons you could kit this out and possibly shorten the time needed to get practice in flying. Only thing I'd say is that in the air the movements are a lot more dramatic especially in a little 172 than this. I suppose you could crank it up a little?

I notice you have another Motion Rig in the video "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 - Motion Sim from MotionGear 4UN in VR with the Varjo Aero", lets refer to this as "F1". Studying videos and comparing your Hexopod style vs your "F1" style, and many other 6OF ver of the F1 style.... visually it seems the hexopod style can not bank as deeply as the F1 style? Hence for flight sim maybe theres less sensation of banking in turns? In flgiht sims i notice the Hexopod seems to do a great job of giving the sensation of the aircraft rasing and dropping in turubance. Doe the F1 do as good as a job, clearly its 600mm vs 200mm. Would you kindly rate the hexopod out of 10 for Racing Sims and Flight Sims, vs the "F1" style? I love flight sims and would love to know the pros and cons of each system. Thank you :D
@calvrsimer2 жыл бұрын
There is no comparison between my old 3DOF (F1) you saw and my new 6DOF. My 6DOF is just in a different league of its own. The range in banking is far greater than the F1. I just have setup my bank turns in the 6DOF in a way that doesn’t use much roll at all (initiating banking with a small roll, then washout to roll in opposite direction to simulate centrifugal forces while banking), that’s why it seems there is little banking mov, but actually the sensation is great. The performances of the platform shown in the video are probably using 1/3 of the overall platform potential in range in all 6 axis!
@TokyoToysTV2 жыл бұрын
@@calvrsimer Wow only 1/3rd movment! When does it use the full motion or have you limited it for comfort? Is this rig good for racing gmes too? Also whats the footprint of the base? You have been so helpful :)
@calvrsimer2 жыл бұрын
@@TokyoToysTVThis a big and very powerful machine, although it is use as a toy, it certainly isn’t one! This is also new territory for me, so for safety reason I have restricted the motion of the platform. The enjoyment for flying is still amazing, the 6DOF is amazing and allows to create physical sensations you can’t achieve with 3DOF. Yes, 6DOF platform is very suited for sim racing as well, you just don’t need as big of a platform as the one I have! I only use this rig for flight simulation!

For the actuators only, yes! There are 13 parts to print per actuators. You have to buy from different online stores, the motor(6) which include its own servo and cables, the ball screw(6), the FK12 square nut(6), the extrusion profiles and all the hardware such as bolts, nuts, etc. From the departed Reality store, you have to get the end pivot set(12) This is only for the actuators. The Departed Reality store is pretty clear IMO, if I did it you certainly can. It just takes time, you won't get it just by giving it a quick glance!
