Agree with you. They wanted to be first and gave up the requisite quality checks before pulling it out the door. I had hoped MS would thoroughly check and test everything they are going to put in the Marketplace. Apparently, that is not going to be done so we all must take the risk whether we are getting a good product or not. I really had hoped MS would only offer add-ons that were fully vetted before release.

Starting the Aircraft is not a BUG! You need to select the Fueltank from OFF to BOTH ez. :D And first you would select the Standby Battery to ARM position in real.

@@smurphy1977 Perhaps because when using Ctrl-E the Fueltank goes to BOTH - then stays on BOTH when he just shuts off the engine - so it will start correctly when he starts it again.

@@flytobi7834 My thoughts exactly. As soon as the engine didn't start, I thought 'Has he switched the fuel on?' Because last week, I saw a vid by a real world USN pilot having problems trying to start the default C172, & I guessed he hadn't done that. After 3 attempts, it dawned on him. But, he'd nearly drained the battery by that stage! So, Ctrl E does more than 1 task. But what I thought the issue may have been is this - I've had payware a/c for FS9, & FSX. The official advice for 2 packages were that you should start the Sim in Engines on config, THEN close them down & restart (if you must). Must be for technical reasons. Certainly for PMDG's Jetstream 41, this was the case. Whenever I did otherwise, I'd often get glitches. It didn't even like you starting from a Saved Flight!

The review I was waiting for. I had Carenado products before in Xp11 and was hoping msfs was going to be their chance to reinvent their brand. For being the first payware aircraft and the first on the ingame marketplace it surely is a hunk of junk. I am quite surprised that this passed QA to go into production. Carenado up to their old tricks again... but who knows we might get a REP pack. ;)

Good review, thanks. I bought the 182 as well. And there are some things I like about it. First it is a more complex plane than the 172 and you should be using the cowl flaps (open climbing and takeoff, closed decending and in most cruise) you also have to manage throttle to set manifold pressure (28" or less in cruise and climb after 1 minute) also prop RPM needs management. I enjoy doing these things as I used to fly 182's and owned a 177 for 10 years. It also is a more capable plane than the 172, shorter takeoffs and much better climb rate makes it a good bush plane. It is a work horse of a plane. I have managed to get the AP and G1000 to function very well. Doing complete IFR procedures, with changes such as direct to with no problems, i don't know why others have problems with this. I have found stalls to be a bit to benign, very little wing drop. But this changes if you change to a far back CG, as it does in the real plane. Over all I usually am not that fond of Carenado planes though they look good. This one is no exception, but at this point I like this plane the best of all available in MSFS 2020. Probably because it is similar to planes I fly in reality a lot. So I am happy with the purchase, but I am sure there will be many better planes in a while. Thanks again for your honest review, I just have a slightly different opinion.

For starting up, have you tried running the fuel pump first with mixture off, until you see fuel pressure. Then shut off pump, hit starter and it should start, As soon as it starts, set mixture to rich. As far as controls, set your aileron, rudder, and elevator sens to - 50 and try it again.

Try this throtle to 1/4 mixture all the way back switch fuel pump on 3secs then off then crank the eng and slowly push mixture in while cranking.also try on left tank or right.poh of the cessna

Is any plug-in planned to watch MP4 movies on the secondary flight display while flying when the navigation system is not needed? Imagine having the synthetic scenery vision switched on on the left screen and MacGyver episodes running on the right screen! Has anyone ever thought about how awesome this idea would be? Why should only passengers of airliners be able to watch movies while flying? The interior of this machine is so beautyful and not the same as all Cessnas but almost cozy and living-room-alike with the soft seats and the beautyful design elements inside, there are beautyfully moddeled seat belts and the door and windows can be opened. The usual superb Carenado quality :)

Try priming the engine with the fuel pump first. Most checklists for this plane call for the fuel pump to be turned on prior to setting the mixture. 6) Aux Fuel Pump - On, 7) Mixture - Full rich until fuel flow rises, 8) Mixture - Idle cut-off, 9) Aux Fuel Pump - off, 10) Prop area - Clear, 11) Ignition - Engage.

Thanks for the review. I stopped purchasing their products a few years back when they didn't put any effort into updating the planes as X-Plane progressed. Really? I have been underwhelmed by the G36, in particular the autopilot going into a deadly spiral dive. As wel, in the game the wings on all planes, with the exception of the commercial ones, don't flex when you hit some turbulence. I have flown several types.. they don't wobble rapidly as they do in the game and they flex bit when strained in real life. I think, considering the amazing job on the weather.. they could have done better with the planes.. many glitches.

@@videolifeca You're right in that the new sim does have noticeable bugs and glitches. I don't see how a project of this magnitude could get out the door with no bugs whatsoever. Asobo does seem to be responding to the feedback from the community, so hopefully the bugs you mentioned will be ironed out soon. It's a shame, though, that Carenado couldn't come out with a payware aircraft that's at least comparable in quality to the default ones.

To start the engine, just use the checklist, like you should do in the real world ... check the fuel tank switch is not in OFF state ... put on the fuel pump and control the fuel flow. As you can see in you vid, the fuel flow stays zero while cranking the engine, that means your fuel tank valve might be shut off.

I have this plane and everything you said it's true when I'm in autopilot the plane pitches up a lot I have to disconnect the AP trim the plane then connect the Autopilot again and I have auto rudder enabled and when landing the plane wonders like when you landed but that is also the Cessna 152 and 172 as well I think it's the way the sim handles the aircraft settings so nothing to do with the aircraft but more with the sim Msfs2020 is a work in progress for sure I hope Asobo and Microsoft keeps fixing the bugs this sim could be the GOAT.

I don't know if this is the case here, but in real C182T, starting procedure is different. To start engine, you need to adjust mixture to full rich, turn on fuel pump for 5 sec. You need to check fuel flow during that. After 5 sec you turn off fuel pump, mixture cut-off, prop full and throttle 1 inch. When engine start, you put smoothly mixture to full rich.

I fly a 182 in our syndicate, This could be buggy code but you didn't prime the engine from cold which is listed in the POH for the 152/172/182. Fuel pump on (up to 5 seconds) and then advance the mixture when you see fuel flow turn the pump off and mixture back to cutoff then crank it, once it fires advance the mixture Your startup procedure was incorrect, ctrl+E overrides any manual procedures (if the code is not buggy) you overrode the priming step with auto start.

Did the startup “bug” ever get resolved? I am curious because I notice the C182T is fuel-injected, which means the engine is NOT started full rich. The pilot instead... * sets mixture to full rich * primes it with the fuel pump (fuel pump on until you see fuel flow), then .... * shut off the fuel pump * set mixture back to FULL LEAN At that point, you try to start the engine and if it starts up THEN you push the mixture to full rich to keep the engine running. (See C182T POH p.4-12). Could the above “injected startup procedure” (vs carb startup procedure) be the issue ?

Wish I had seen this and other videos about the Carenado Cessna 182. I am new to flight sims and have been getting my feet wet with the Asobo Cessna 172. I figured the G1000 in this plane would be the same as in the 172, and so I bought it. However, the G1000 AP setup is quite different and seems to be lacking in controls. Maybe I just have to figure things out. But in the 172, I was able to set my target altitude and vertical speed pre flight and set my NAV mode and once over about 500 feet I could switch on AP and NAV mode and relax until near my destination. Also some of the soft keys are inactive on this plane. Disappointed in this plane and its interface. Hoping Carenado will do updates to fix things but it sounds like those with more experience with Carenado are implying they’d will not do anything more. Thanks for this review. This is quite interesting. I bought the 182 yesterday and jumped in to test it out really quickly. Just wanted to see if it had anything extra features compared to the existing Cessna aircraft, couldn't find any. Although I didn't spend all that much time with it. But I did do a cold & dark start and had absolutely no issues starting the plane up. I feel sorry for those of you who have issues with the aircraft. OK! scratch that. As I was composing this comment I decided to jump into MSFS and gave the 182 another go. And this time, for whatever reason, I was unable to start the plane without first using the automatic start first. I find this a bit odd. My take away from this is that the plane might be a bit temperamental, and might or might not start properly. Regardless I hope Carenado fix this issue soon.

What is missing is that the Fuel Cut-off is in the CLOSED position by default in Cold and Dark state. Carenado "forgot" to place a knob to OPEN this valve. The workaround is to do Alt+V. I just added that step to my checklist and all is well.

REALLY disappointing. And following on some of the issues I saw with ORBX (London objects) I am starting to feel like I do not want to invest in MSFS 2020 add-ons until the ecosystem gets past this “gold rush” release behavior. Initial bad actors could seriously damage the ecosystem.

Orbx released an update which fixes the London City mess. But yeah for now stay far from payware. I tried out the orbx and i like them :D after the update. I think after a full year the ecosystem will mature.

I have the Carenado 182 for Flight Simulator X and was expecting the same excellent product. I was very disappointed with this MSFS 2020 version. This review didn’t touch on the Auto Pilot feature which is VERY buggy in my opinion. Everything runs as you’d expect until you turn it off...which it never does! Trying to land and fight the A/P which I thought was not engaged is very frustrating!

I ran into the same starting issue as you had (AusSimmer also had it). Checking the manual, it indicates priming the engine first by engaging the fuel pump, advancing the mixture to rich until fuel pressure is indicated, then turning off the fuel pump and putting the mixture back to lean. Then start the engine and advance the mixture. I seem to recall trying that as well but still not having any success but I am going to try it again.

I'm actually a Carenado fan but I don't think much of this add-on. My biggest gripe is the horrible autopilot. If you engage vertical speed mode after takeoff, it starts out at about minus 7000 feet per minute. It does seem to work properly if you start it from level flight with altitude hold on. The other problem is that it oscillates wildly about the course in nav mode for several minutes before settling down. I don't know if this is Carenado's fault or the simulator's. I don't know why they wouldn't just use the autopilot that's built into the G1000. It seems to work fine in the default 172. I don't mind that the flight sim was rushed out the door because I would rather have it now in its current state than wait a year for a finished product. The same does not apply to an add-on that costs half the price on the base version of the game, especially since Carenado have little or no history of patching their products. Thanks for the video. Yeah, it's a shame. One of the first payware aircraft I ever bought for FSX was their Bonanza clear back in 2009 and I loved it. They just aren't keeping up with the pack. Good looks alone aren't enough any more.

Carenado sort of lost me here. G1000, but without the autopilot controls in the G1000. The buttons are removed. Makes no sense to me. At this rate the only aircraft I could see buying from them for MSFS in the future is the DO-228 - and that’s only because I’m in love with it when I’m in X-Plane and I suspect someone else won’t do it. Developers: a DO-228NG would be amazing.

I purchased this model because I loved flying the real plane non Turbo version in the mountains. It is a very capable bush and xountry machine. I too found the sound unrealistic but my main problem is with the autopilot. I can only hold altitude once I'm at altitude. The vertical climb or descend to altitude doesn't work for me. As for starting, I did have problems at first but I found that pumping the throttle while the fuel pump is on seems to work.. sort of priming.

Regarding the start bug, did you check the fuel selector? It may have been turned off instead of left or right. Hitting ctrl-e would have changed that.

Since the 182 is the aircraft I have the most time in real life, I purchased this right away. I also own this on XPlane 11. I assume this was ported as fast as possible as a business decision to try and make some fast money for all the new users for MSFS2020. Like you had mentioned I have the same issue with the starting. Was frustrating when I first got it because I would understand if I couldn't start a 747 because I've never flown a 747, but how could I not start an airplane I have a lot of time in? They had to know of the issue in advance frankly. Hopefully they will fix that soon. Kills the immersion. The airplane also does not fly how a real 182T flies. The performance characteristics are not only off compared to real life, they are off compared to it's XPlane counterpart. Thanks for the video! Edit to add: FYI Full power is for take off only., Use 23MP during climb after take off and about 22MP/2300RPM during cruise is a good average for standard cruise between 4-8kMSL

I searched for a review of this first payware aircraft hoping for a working VNAV (default GA airplanes aren't offering it). For what I've seen here is not even the worth to ask you if you checked it. I agree with your opinion. Seriously, this is pretty disappointing. Simmers buy payware airplanes to fly it... not to play with the windows handles.

Just got this plane, but there is a bug, in that I can't hide the flight yoke. Apparently the devs are aware of this. and working on a patch. Hope it doesn't take too long. What I wonder is there a flight level change button and where is it?

Most offerings to the new simulator thus far appear carryovers from FSX and PMDG and do not reflect at all the new level of realism that has taken years of toil and sweat to develop. Fanboys for these fledgling companies are shading the facts, but most discriminating simmers can see the sad mismatch. Hungry for this new source of fast bucks, while not taking the time necessary to develop products worthy of this incredible new level of sim tech, is a disservice to the community and will certainly not earn the respect of hard core simmers who can tell the difference- Until these aftermarket companies get their act together and go to work creating product on the same realistic level- be wise and save your money!

@@Q8Pilot I tested it, the fuel valve is inactive on this Carenado plane. But it started right and smooth at the first turn of the key for me. I really miss the A2A planes, I wish they come to MSFS2020.

A very good and honest review, well done captain. As for the aircraft itself, I think that 30 euros is just way too much for this piece of crap. It screams "rushed" and even after September's latest update it must still be very weird compared to the default 172 G1000. I'd rather stay away from ripoffs such as these.

Q8Pilot, please comment on and clarify regarding your claim of a no-start "bug". Seems that all the folks voer at avsim are saying there is no such bug and that you likely just forgot to fiddle with the fuel selector valve. Was it set to "both"?...I heard that it needed to be set to either left or right...is that true and has carenado acknowledged the bug or fixed it yet?

I am almost sure the bug was there. There has been an update to the aircraft recently so I am not sure if it has been fixed. I will check and let you know. I recommens that you wait for A2A to release their aircraft into FS2020

Other than the one glitch with autopilot and sound.. The performance and navigation functions work very well... much better than the Baron G36 which goes into a spiral dive if you have any aileron trim set...Awful I've stopped flying the G36 out if frustration... in favour of the 182 or twin 58.. which seems to be fine.

Why doesn't the G1000 have a synthetic display? If they are using the same one as all the default aircraft have shouldn't it have it? Or do they plan on releasing it as a separate addon? Anyway, I am quite happy with the default C172 G1000 I pretty much fly that all the time anyway in Fs2020.

It is an addon. Only the C152 and 172 are part of MSFS free offering.

The engine is waaay overpowered, right? 2000ft rate of climb, no problem. Doesn't match the specs I see of real t182s

Thanks for the honest review. Looks like a Carenado money grab. I suspect they'll dump a bunch of their P3D models on MSFS with no substantial improvements - buyer beware. BTW: I didn't see you check that fuel flow was on prior to starting the C182.

I cant stand Carenado aircraft, but are you sure its not starting because you are trying to start without priming the engine? Also these engines are started with the mixture in ICO not full rich? If you tried to start a real 182 the way you did here it wouldn’t work most of the time.

Yeah I was not impressed with it in XP either. Looks nice though. In this review I would have liked to see how well the G1000 operates.
