The issue is that in order to play MSFS2024 with the same level or better of graphical fidelity as MS2020 it's going to require a new computer.......What most are going to discover is that on thier current hardware MSFS2024 won't look much better than FS2020 on the current old computer. And given the current economic landscape in the USA, where most of the flight sim community lives most ppl are going to struggle financially to come up with the $$$$..this is going to be a very interesting to see what happens. America is broke and these companies keep marching on like we are all made out of money.

The multithreading will be a huge help, although a lot of the footage ive seen from the GC event seemed to still have stutters, or even in this vid when he spawns into the sign plane, so i guess time will tell.

@@mriverasystemsif you can run MSFS 2020 with high quality graphics, you will not have a problem getting the same or better with 2024. They are improving some backend things, such as multithreading support and DX12. The more important factor will be your internet connection for the extra streaming content.

The charts are another significant feature, in my opinion. Although it isn't commonly discussed, but having free charts will save us a ton of money. Actually, the cost of purchasing msfs2024 will be covered by the savings of a year's chart subscription.

Really hope that they have fixed Alaska , South America and many parts of Asia where the Bing imagery is contaminated by clouds. These clouds appear in the sim and look like snow on the ground. I thought the AI would take care of this in FS20! Waiting to see FS24...

if you are on PC, try using the better satelite images addon, it helps a lot on areas with poor bing coverage from those images

The AI only analysed the ground textures and populated stuff on top of it, the next game could do more for the ground textures but we'll see.

@@cikame Azure AI was *supposed* to look at a cloud contaminated area of Bing maps, erase the cloud, anaylyze the clean terrain around the area and then use that to fill in the deleted cloud area. This never happened in South America. Fly around Panama and you'll see what looks like snow on the top of the rainforest. Hoping we dont see this in FS24

@@ishiddddd4783 I have been using the excellent MET (Map Enhancement Tool) and while it does make a difference in places like the mainland USA it unfortunately still pulls back cloud contaminated areas of Bing Map for Central & South America and large parts of Asia. This is not a good sign because it says its pulling in the latest maps which means the latest ones also have cloud contamination. It appears the fabled Azure might be struggling with cleaning up the maps.

You do you, but I will tell you that this "boot" does in fact taste pretty good because I have played Microsoft Flight Sim for over a decade, and each installment has amazed me and given me more hours of fun than the last. I've made friends over this game, I have a PPL-IR because of this game. And the dev team is one of the most community focused, openly listening and humble people I have seen come from a large studio. If you don't see that Jorg Neumann is the biggest flightsim fan in the world, then that's just sad. If this experience is not what you want, then either do something about it and provide actually usable feedback to the developers, or find something else to do. Because insulting strangers online is the first step to have your argument be discarded at once. Good riddance.

I really dislike how they are requiring planes to be vetted before they work in campaigns. Some of the best planes are free mods that wouldn't be able to go through that process. I'm hoping Neofly can use all the new features of the sim and incorporate it into their 3rd-party campaign

Visually, the Northern Lights scene around 4:10 in is not well resolved. The sky looks fine but it is only reflecting on the aircraft. The water receives nothing, making it appear like a harsh end of the north light effect

I'm already pretty disappointed in what Microsoft think immersion is in relation to pre-flight. It seems to me that most of the click points don't properly work and there's a lack of realism in cargo door opening where the animations of the latch aren't even done, or for example checking the flaps means just looking at a condition window that says they're fine (that doesn't exist in the real world). An immersive pre-flight could be simulating a slightly flat tire and requiring a call to mechanics to inflate it. Removing the engine covers could use the soft body dynamics in FS2024, rather than them just disappearing when they're clicked upon. Leaks and marks or imperfect alignment could be simulated on the flaps to show excessive wear or problems (same for all control surfaces), so much is possible to make it a genuinely exciting and immersive experience. So, why should I do it if its such a mediocre experience and why does Microsoft think that such basic and mediocre challenges pass muster when the 3rd party developers absolutely wipe the floor with their level of detail, regardless of the fact that they have orders of magnitude of less resources.

In msfs2020 there are a lot of assists you can toggle, so you can set it up to be easier to start out. I'm sure 2024 will be the same. Elite is one of the hardest games to learn, so you should do fine in flight sim. You can't be as heavy handed in a flight sim, you have to go easy on the stick. That was the biggest thing for me to get used to coming from elite. Another sim worth checking out is IL-2 Sturmovik. WW2 combat sim. The graphics aren't great but the flight modeling is good and the combat is fun. There's assists in that too. It's the sim I went to after way too much time in elite.

Msfs 2020 is currently broken in a lot of ways. I tell the sim to spawn me on a certain runway or ramp parking spot. It ignores me and spawns me on another runway, or in the air. I tell it to spawn me on a helipad as a helicopter and it spawns me on the numbers of a major runway at same airport. I tell it to have certain preset weather and it gives me clear skies. I fly once, go back to main menu, load up for another flight and scroll down to pick another plane and it crashes. I pause the game to set some traffic settings or adjust the audio, and the game can't handle that and crashes. I do anything long enough in VR and pause it to adjust something or swap aircraft and it crashes. I'm on PC It. doesn't. Listen

Why are the in game footage examples so poor ? - You don't manage to click on the Boeing click points of the rear wheel, so you give up - You fly the aerial advertising plane far too fast to pickup the banner (you were supposed to be below 70 kts). - The oil rig footage is jerky and not very well done. - You're at full throttle heading into the fire and hence you over-speed twice, then you leave in performing an aerobatic manoeuvre in a monstrously huge plane.

Hmmmm. This is my question that I haven't seen definitively answered. It seems crystal clear so far that if I want to use thin client and 3rd party planes in career mode then I need to purchase 2024 from the marketplace. Ok, but what if, like me, I bought 2020 on Steam. My purchased planes can be put in communtity and should work as before but according to Jorg, content purchased from the *marketplace* but via Steam will not be available in my 2024 library. So, that throws away the AN225, ATR and ini Stansted for me (at least) so about £60+. Not impressed.

Can anybody advise me please: I only know 2024 exists as I was considering buying 2020. I've never had a flight sim, I'm just looking for a chill out game; some world exploration and see some pretty sights. My PC specs are a touch below the recommended for 2024 (AMD 5 3600, RTX 2070 super, 32GB RAM, I'm not upgrading). I do wonder , if current 3rd party aircraft will work in 2024, how the new 'flight model' will work with them. Does is not suggest that the flight model, in practice will be the same between the two simulations? For example if the PMDG 737 is working from fsx style look up table flight model, how will that translate to something that is meant to be a CFD model?

Yes. I don't work at Asobo, but you're almost surely correct. Old planes will run using the old flight model. New flight model only with new planes. There really is no other choice, as old planes will not include the data required to simulate under the new flight model.

In the developer live stream, they said that planes from 2020 (that is, planes not updated to 2024) will fly exactly like they flew in msfs 2020. It is sort of a special backwards-compatibility mode for old planes that ignores the new flight models.

The way they explained it was that any plane you own inside the MSFS 2020 marketplace will also be unlocked in the 2024 marketplace. However, this is ONLY true if you bought 2024 on the same platform (Steam or Microsoft Store) that you bought the previous version on. Also, air races is now part of the new Challenge mode that players can compete with each other through a leaderboard.

MSFS was pretty dead before the 2020 Sim was released.

The fact that everything is backwards compatible just further proves this should have been an engine upgrade to 2020 while the new missions and aircraft could have been sold as dlc (packages). Microsoft never specifically mentioned that during it's initially advertised 10 year live service plan there is going to be a new product that'll include many of the features advertised for MSFS 2020 forcing you to upgrade to get those features. Not even a loyalty bonus for scammed customers is downright insulting. Microsoft is just greedy sc** if we're being honest and everyone defending this is a corporate shill.

@@eduonkhl it remains to be seen if the upgrade was worth it. I’m lucky to be playing on GamePass but I’d admit if I payed full-price I’d probably hold off on getting 2024 until it was cheaper and had early bugs quashed.

Also I’m old enough to remember playing MSFS 98 and 2000. My grandpa had them on his computer and I was a kid so I didn’t buy them but I can imagine that some players back then were annoyed about having to pay full price twice in 2 years.

scammed customers? Are you kidding? 1. the sim will still be supported along side msfs 2024 so that's your argument dead. 2. The FREE updates we have had so far in MSFS 2020 would of cost thousands in any other flight sim. You honestly need to grow up.

It isn't really true to same that everything is backwards compatible. If you load a 2020 plane into 2024, it will operate in a special backwards compatibility mode which ignores the new features that have been added. For example, no plane from 2020 will be able to work in any of the missions because of the new mission-specific coding that's needed for planes to function in that mode.

Nope, still a big no buy. I don‘t get it, msfs2020 is still a mess, no working weather API for third party devs, bad performance, missing train tracks, … and the solution is a gameification with essentially still the same bugs, but now with rtx. And it´s topped with a more restrictive SDK to push the sh***y XBox integration, which was a time consuming blocker for a lot of third Party devs to either work around of cope with it in msfs2020. I honestly donˋt get it, why this gets such a good press overall for beeing an interesting iteration. Unless you just want an expensive pilot career game, there are no good indications that this is going to be a simulator at all, or at least having a good SDK for devs to create wonderful realistic behaving Aircraft.

I've never heard any official mention of seeing your avatar climbing out of the plane. By saying you can climb out of your plane it doesn't mean you will see it happening, just that you can leave the confines of the plane. There is footage on YT of people walking on the terrain around their planes. Blu Games for one has footage. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You're not going to see anyone walk a mountain trail yet. Simmers only had a few hours of access so they aren't going to waste that time walking trails. 🙄

There is no third person view and your avatar is only visible in photo mode. The avatar is also invisible in multiplayer mode.

A full camera crew with craft services? Of course it's an external camera, it can't be anything else. Hahahaha. Honestly, I don't think it'll work anywhere near as well as they're implying but the walking mechanic has been shown (and not from MS themselves). Sure, what's shown is limited but it is out there.
