Turns out I needed to turn off "Motion Smoothing" in SteamVR. It was causing extra distortions due to the lower frames. With that off, it was much more enjoyable. I could crank the settings back up a bit to get the decent visuals and experience. Now i look forward to graduating from the original Vive. :)

So far i am loving it! i had a few issues to smooth out, such as having a yellow screen in my rift s, because HDR was on, and needed to update my rift s to a new oculus rift s beta version, to get rid of a black stencil in the headset when trying to fly. But now, with my 3090, it truly is a marvel of technology. and looks absolutely incredible and totally immersive. Hope these tips helps out anyone who has issues with the rift s

I feel the G2 has a distorting effect, no matter what settings, even in WMR Portal. When I move my head down or up, the floor or ceiling comes closer, looking left or right feels like also moving a foot in that direction while actualy only the head tilts. I read people experiencing similar, but now explanation or fix to that. Or people just get along with it. With my Rift everything looks more natural, the immersion sensation is much greater, just the resolution sucks.

I really trust your impressions, because you have not hesitated to be critical of MSFS in the past. It's one thing to hear one of those youtubers who just talk up everything like it's the greatest thing, but when somebody is critical, you know they're giving you the real deal.

cool. thanks Clint.. that means a lot. i do my best to be honest and consistent. they have some work still to do with controllers and other stuff but out of the gate, after the first 8 mins of flight they seemed to have done a solid job.

@@BamTechVids I downloaded the patch, fired up my Dell Visor and took it for a spin. Wow. It's a game changer. The feel of the cockpit is almost perfect. It feels way too large on a flat screen, but flying around my home town in a 152 it felt perfect. It just feels good, for VFR you barely need to look at your instruments, I was able to travel all around my town to different places I've been effortlessly. Landing feels natural, it is so much easier to pitch for speed and throttle for descent. I am now really excited to fly all of the smaller aircraft that aren't so exciting on a flat screen.

Absolutely amazing. I have a GeForce 2060 with 6GB VRam, 32GB Ram, intel I7 9700KF (8x3,6 Ghz) and with Medium Settings i have 35--40 FPS and its smooth and looks so damn good even on my Oculus Quest one.

@MRV im wondering if its the newer nvidia drivers,iv heard its causing a problem with some.every other game iv got runs fantastic on g2 though so not sure whats going on,theres just terrible stutter all the time even with supersampling down to 50%

agree. if you compare it to LR's first VR release for XP11, Asobo is ahead of the curve without question.. In all fairness factors have advanced quite a bit since then. But Asobo hit a home run here.

In VR? I have 1080Ti and without VR I now play at Ultra settings @ 3440x1440p but with VR it's insanely heavy for the GPU to handle.

That area just to the east of the airport at which you landed is Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. The H-shaped buildings are the recruit barracks. That brought back some great memories for me from 1988. Thanks for the video. I'm looking to get back into flight sims myself.

This is what I have been waiting for since I got the Oculus DK1. I now have the original HP Reverb G1. I recently dumped a load of $ on the latest hardware. I am getting a smooth 45fps in VR in less populated areas, and 35fps around NY. I do miss some of the addons from X-plane, but a can’t go back.

I'm running a 3950X, dual Titan X Pascal (not SLI) 32Gb Ram and 100Gb Cache on a Nvme M.2. I have been running everything on low minus textures those are on high, grass is off, scaling of 50 and resolution at 60 ( I think ), on a Pimax 8K Plus FOV set to normal,. I'm getting about 33- 38 FPS. Its is playable, you get the jittering, but the immersion it provides, is amazing. I cant wait to get a 3090! If those damn things ever become available.

I'm running on a I9 2080 Super, Quest 1 Link. It's absolutely amazing, as you said - a new bar has been raised :) I did most sims and games that are available in VR and nothing impressed me more than FS2020 in VR. But I have gfx set to High and my fps is much smoother than in your video, maybe 3 times as smooth. I'm reading such different results all over the place, people with better systems getting much worse results. I have no idea what the reason is and slightly nervous for when my G2 finally arrives - hope it runs as good with the G2 as it does now.

I’ve got a 3080 and 5900x. Using a g2. Graphics Settings are low or off , render scale 60-70 and it’s running at 30fps max. I had low expectations but it runs very badly imo

Have a similar system (Non-Ti 1080 though). Simple aircraft only so far for me. X-Plane with Vulkan is smoother for the same visual quality. Feels better too but not a scientific assessment on my part. XP just doesn't have the entire world modeled out of the box. XP takes a lot of add-ons - which we're going to need in FS2020 too however, to bring it up the the Hyped level. They've already started shipping... Can't run with the clouds any higher than what they look like in XPlane so no practical difference there. Ahhhhh, the never ending game of hardware upgrading to satisfy the Eye Candy crush. Going back to my DCS Hornet/Tomcat/Harrier/Viper/Huey in VR now. It's a better 'experience', for me personally. FS2020 is nice - like FSX was when it was born. Just gotta give it a decade. If it gets more people into flight sims it's a good thing. And into VR is a better thing.

Important: switch supersampling to 6x6 in MSFS 2020 this will reduce washed out Runway markings in the far away.

@@BamTechVids I think the 3090 and 3080 benchmarks have shown that more VRAM isn't the holy grail, because the 3090 often only renders around 10 fps more than the 3080. Also the AMD cards with more VRAM don't perform much better. Same goes for normal RAM.

The best VR experience ever? I like MSFS 2020 and I am tweaking my settings. But you can fly Aerofly FS2 now with ultra high settings in VR with a GTX 1080 and you don't need a hardware upgrade.

My impression is a little different and please bear with me on this one. The visuals - good (not excellent since we need to dial down some of the eye candy settings, there is still some blurriness for objects not near you) The sound - good Control - not implemented yet (and not sure they will integrate controllers). I use the G2 and run MS FS 2020 from their store (or xbox play or something like that). What I think we need to remember in case of VR, if we want good visuals, we need to keep the "Render Scaling" as close to 100% as possible (good luck with that ;-) ), but you will have to sacrifice other features in order to do that. I run on 80% and visuals are pretty good while my specs are intel 8700K + 16G + NV1080TI. What I do not agree is that there is a misconception between visual fidelity and VR implementation. IMHO, VR implementation should include controllers and full cockpit manipulation from VR and with VR controllers, in that instance you use your real hands to manipulate the cockpit. Asosbo did not nail this one therefore I do not agree with you saying "Asobo nail it", absolutely not and even far from it. What Asobo did nail, with the assistance of MS, is the visual fidelity, it was there from day 1, and therefore it is there in VR too, it is the same product and same engine. That being said, I'm far from being XP11 fanboy, I love X-Plane VR implementation. One of the reasons for that is that you can do almost anything with your "VR hands" there is no need for additional hardware to control the plane, hence the immersion factor. When I flew in MSFS2020 I appreciated the visuals, I really did, VFR flying has got new meaning and flying in bad weather...that was fun and challenging. But it does not the only factor that defines VR. VR fidelity is so much more, in my opinion, and I think you missed that point. My overall experience was really positive, Handling the 2 planes I tested was quite ok, after mapping some of the basics and must have commands to my "invisible joystick and nostromo 52". Asobos VR Mouse implementation is a must have, your mouse is your "hands" basically (bummer). At the end of the day, the VR fidelity felt lame it did not matter which plane I flew I always had the same button to press for flaps or to handle gears, the size of the cockpit and location of switches did not really matter (if you are using external hardware), you don't really have to learn the cockpit and therefore immerse yourself even more, I do not know why this is not reflected in these kind of videos, this is after all the essence of VR to be part of the scene and therefore learn and feel as you are there and handling the real plane and not just to admire the "textures" of cockpit and outside view (which is also part of the fun don't get me wrong). Thanks for reading so far and I hope and believe that Asosbo will make VR better in the long run, I know that I'll keep coming back to have some more VFR flights in VR since it is fun even with all those drawbacks. Even on an RTX 3080 and Ryzen 5600x, with all graphical settings set to their lowest possible setting and 60 percent resolution, the game still runs incredibly inconsistently. It's an impressive game, but the performance kills all the joy for me. If it was possible to get a smooth experience then it would be among the most incredible VR games. If you look at the frame timing graphs in FPS VR then you'll see how there is almost zero hope of getting a decent experience on today's hardware.

Cloud based scenery is a factor as well. I’ve learned to live with the tech shortcomings associated with today’s VR. It’s WAY better that it was 5 years ago when I got my first headset. The goal for most is real life movement and visual experience. We’re getting there bit by bit.

He also release his VR First Impression & Reaction video providing some in-depth tips and tricks with the MSFS VR Graphics menu to get smooth performance in VR using a 1080ti 11gb. He says fairly much the same as what you've been saying. u are correct.. this 2D video does not do it justice. what I'm seeing is in 3D and I forget sometimes that viewers are seeing 2D. VR flight simming is great and MSFS implemenation is well done from what I can see.
