I really wish another company would do something similar to FS2020 but for driving. It would work in a similar way, and technically you really only need high levels of detail in populated areas/near main roads. I would be willing to accept the trade off in lower fidelity in the absolute middle of nowhere, etc.

@@opticFPV The devs say this is a living sim - or something like that. Meaning it'll be added to / evolving over time. So... maybe sailing a dinghy or yacht anywhere in the world? And yeah, driving on the roads. The driving bit might be a big ask as I don't know what level of detail we'll see outside of airports. He was, I think, only walking around the "hand crafted," airports. Those that only the AI creates might not look as good close up. Hope they do though! Hell I don't know. Maybe they can incorporate racing cars and tracks into the sim. Land your copter and watch others race lol. I can dream!

This is obviously too low res to be any good at driving level, but why couldn’t you do something similar with all the street view footage on google? I realize that it’s still very far from available all over the world, but let’s start with USA and maybe Europe. I would pay a buttload for that

I'm in beta and was in alpha and I think if you are ok with RFactor level graphics minimum with better lighting than it could work. The big photogrammetry cities are nicer than that, closer to DCS level. So I could see it being feasible if you just want to try messing around anywhere but don't expect magic. Its pretty damn fun enough just flying imo

The lukla airport walk around reminded me of Far Cry 4, obviously not as detailed neverthless the trees on the mountains, the ramp and the fog etc. this a great job from Asobo and MS. Great video and thank you for showcasing this.

It's amazing what is achieved in this simulator. The amount of detail is already mind blowing. If they keep developing this further, you pretty soon don't ever have to go anywhere anymore to see all pretty locations in the world. You can just explore the whole world in first person perspective without ever leaving your house.

I would love a dedicated foot mode, one of the greatest things about flying is when you shut off your engine at an airport you never been before, pop open the door and take in the new sights and sounds surrounding you. It's a very real part of the flying experience and there's even a little bit of roleplay potential there. Maybe it won't have to go overboard with any mechanics, but at least the option of walking around.

Remember that you can also bind the drone camera to the joystick... Flying, slewing and droning is not that far off from each other, afterall.. I usually put moving up/down to the POV switch and tilting to auxiliary buttons. moving forwards/backwards and sideways i just put on the main joystick axis.

I remember someone once made a freeware Willy’s Jeep in FS9(?). Used to drive that thing all over the place. Graphics at ground level were appallingly bad but I still loved it. I think we had better imaginations back then to make up for what the programmer and your graphics card couldn’t give you.

Good to know this is a default feature. Reminds me of great times in FSX doing non flight activities. Like landing in Trinidad then I would get in a speed boat and travel down one of the Amazon rivers to another airport location. I also took a yacht across the Florida Keys etc.

I remember the time, before computers became as powerful as they are today, that airforce pilots trained on two types of simulators: - first one was one with computer graphics used for general flying at medium altitude, not much detail in those times; - second one was actually a projected screen inside a semi sphere, projecting the image that a camera was shooting of a 3D sculpted (not in the computer, an actual model) landscape so the pilots could get used to doding hill tops and even treetops at extreme low level flying. And city architects used scale models but to get a feeling of how a person would experience the building once it was constructed, they had a similar rig like the second low-level flight simulator, with a camera rolling at a miniature person's eye level inside the 'new residential area.' Aided by small electro motors, these cameras could move around, allowing people to 'walk around' the structure that was to be constructed.

Now I want someone to mod in lodging and food dishes - like in Final Fantasy 15. That way when you land , Bing can pull up local restaurants, and lodging.. that way you can get a more immersive feeling when exploring , and get a better appreciation for regional cuisine. ( might also be fun to have an in game expense log to track your spending on things maintenance, fuel, parking, lodging and meals. )
