I tried the new Outlook a few weeks ago at work. It did not allow me to Snooze a meeting for more than two hours. I often set reminders for when tasks are due certain days of the week, and if I know I cannot tackle it today I snooze it for 1 or 2 days. This is now gone. I also could not figure out how to assign categories to a meeting. To me it seems like they created an app that is more geared towards phone/tablet usage, and not for productivity.

The only reason I buy Microsoft's Office suite is Outlook. The alternate Outlook app is garbage.

I agree that most of the other options that would be used as a replacement for Outlook do not look as refined or have all of the features that Outlook provides. Some of those alternatives do provide very good emailing options but lack the plug-ins that would make them great!

I've tried Thunderbird and, once you get over the usual hurdles, it will do everything as Outlook does and a very similar way. I hate the idea of the transition but I'm fed up with MS doing this every 10 years with such a fundamental app.

I use Thunderbird as well! Even though the interface looks different and is not quite as refined as Outlook, it works just as well as Outlook (even better than Outlook in some cases). Just as you mentioned, I am able to send/receive emails with all of my accounts. The fact that they allow you to download, install, and use Thunderbird for free and it works this well, it seems like a win-win for anybody that decides to use it!

MS will backtrack on this. Corporations move very slowly any won't switch. I predict that the classic Outlook will exist well beyond that 2029 date.

Absolutely, businesses have add-in COM objects that don't seem supported in the new Outlook, some off-the-shelf, some they have built for business integration, they are part of the business applications, it will take a long time to re-engineer those.

The new outlook app is quite bad. OK very bad.

From a tech support perspective, not having an app to install, patch and maintain this does make life easier. Im oldschool too, i like and appreciate the app but if they focus on on a web app and make it feature rich, I'm all for it.

I'm not a fan of Outlook at all, but sucks to see variety narrow even more. I use emclient, but with less and less competition, there's concern that in time, they will grow complacent and stagnant.

How is the anti-virus/anti-malware integration?
@Sonya_MakepeaceАй бұрын
@@alistermunro7090 I don't know. I don't use any anti virus software. If I did, none of the programs on my computer would run.

Yet another push toward subscription payments (monthly or yearly) So glad I installed Microsoft Office Home and Business 2019 and have NEVER moved to 365's ever spending. I do NOT need the features from 365 since Office 2019 with VBA does everything I need.

Beloved? I've hated Outlook since it was first released.

A lot of people needed Outlook because it was one of the only programs that would work flawlessly with Exchange when it first came out. Since then, they have stuck with Outlook (for good or bad) and now they will have to make a change. I personally use Thunderbird but have worked on and used Outlook for many people to get all of the emails, contacts, and calendars synced between their devices. With all of the changes, they might have to look for alternatives due to the fact that the Outlook (New) does not have and support all of the features the Outlook (Classic) offers. Maybe this will be a good thing and will force Microsoft to incorporate everything Outlook (Classic) was able to do into the Outlook (New). However, even if Microsoft doesn't incorporate all of the features, some other programs (Thunderbird, Mailbird, Canary Mail, etc) will step up to the plate and fulfill all of those needs that users are wanting.

I already figured classic Outlook was dying. In the last year I have had huge issues with it moving all kinds of legitimate emails to the Junk folder... and nothing you can do will fix that (telling MS outlook that a sender is not "junk" has no effect at all). Multiple times a day I now have to search the Junk folder and move emails back to either my inbox, or into the appropriate subject/client email folder. I tried totally resetting Outlook back to original settings by deleting it and resetting it up again. Within 2 weeks I was back to where I had started from. The Internet is full of all kinds of suggestions on how to fix this issue - and none of them worked for me, nor apparently for many others. My plan is that within the next year I am installing Linux on all my computers as I am not going to move to Windows 11.... and find another email client and MS will only be run for very specific programs that I need once in a while (example I own a lifelong subscription to a full version of Adobe Acrobat and about every 3 months need to create a relatively full feature Adobe Document with it)..

The most likely reason legitimate e-mails are being sent to Junk is because the people sending you e-mails haven't implemented SPF/DKIM/DMARC for their e-mails......

We have stayed with Office 2013 including Outlook 2013 for years. Haven't had any reason to upgrade. If Outlook 2013 stops working we will completely revisit our requirements but at this point feel very little loyalty to the Microsoft of today. Sorry MS!
@IT10128 күн бұрын
I feel like the old versions work just as well as the new versions. The only reason I would see a need to upgrade to the newer versions of Office is if you needed the increased security to be able to access certain email addresses (Gmail, iCloud, etc). I am all for supporting the old versions of Office 😉

I agree; the new Outlook does not give you an option to make it look like the Classic Outlook. I personally liked the way that Classic Outlook looked and performed. If they can give you the option to make the new Outlook look like the Classic Outlook and it still gives you all the plug-ins and features that Classic Outlook provides, then I might be more willing to try it out 😉
