Microsoft KIN ONE and TWO Review

PhoneArena reviews Microsoft's social-centric phones, the KIN ONE and KIN TWO, available through Verizon Wireless. The KIN ONE is a compact device with portrait sliding QWERTY keyboard and a 2.6-inch QVGA display, while the KIN TWO is a side-slider with a larger, 3.4-inch HVGA display. Both handsets run a platform that looks similarly to Windows Phone 7, but is not smart, meaning the user cannot install third-party apps.

i LOOOOOOVED my Kin2. I wish i could find a phone that has a similar set up, I'm okay with the windows tiles but i'd like more of a cross between and LG set up and a Windows set up

Great, in depth review of the two phones! I still hold the opinion that the iPhone is better. These two seem like phones geared more towards the younger, high school-aged crowd. Not something that interests me at all... too bad for Microsoft. Well, at least they tried. thanks again for the in depth review... it solidified my decision to not purchase this phone.

great video. i might get this phone. but first i had a few questions for the kin twom 1) HowW many messages can it hold? or how many can each threaded message hold? 2) can you save messages or go to that computer kin studio thing and save messages? 3) Is there a way to block the internet from using data but only using through a router?

@nakayley I'd just like to say a few things. 1. KIN phones were a bit disappointing :/ 2. I got the iPhone 4 and I have had 0 problems so far and I got it the first day it came out. 3. I'm planning on selling my iPhone 4 for a Windows Mobile 7 after they've been out for awhile because-while the iPhone 4 is the best phone I've owned, I LOVE my Zune HD's interface and that seems to be what WM7 is based off of.

I recently got an LG Dare. And I hated it. You see, I got the LG Dare because my original Kin Two was washed in the washing machine. I was so mad. I loved the Kin Two because of the great texting, something the LG Dare didn't offer me. I really only have a phone for the texting, and so the Kin Two is the phone for me. That's why I'm getting another one. I love it!

@SenoreQueso I have to say that I'm an iPhone user and I'm very happy with the device. I rarely lose service and I really enjoy the features. I don't know if it's overhyped only because to me overhype means try to sell something to a mass audience with no success, to me the Droid is more overhyped but I digress. Anyways, I think the iPhone 4 especially, while maybe not super high tech, is an impressive piece of tech that performs well both functionally and commercially.

OMG i got this phone 2 weeks ago and it's so much fun!! the wifi is great, and it has such a good touch screen, my only complaint is that the kin software isn't compatible with windows xp, and you cant send videos, unless you have a data plan so you can email them to urself

Hey buddy, it can't replace the SideKick line because, that's T-Mobile. I kind of hear what you mean but....no. T-Mobile is replacing their SideKick line with the Mytouch Slide. And even then, there are rumors of this 1GHz Processor, Android 2.2, 4.3", Super Amoled, Slide out keyboard SideKick coming out (still rumored). The Kin is still Windows. And Windows just hasn't done it right yet.

@SenoreQueso You cant argue against the iphone. Its the greatest piece of technology of our time. Whatever Apple does the other companies try to replicate to no avail. Im glad to be an Apple fanboy. Once you go Mac you never go back.

Mine's arriving today. I got the TwoM because of the wifi and not needing a data plan as well. Plus the 8 megapixel camera. VZW tried to offer me an iPhone when I called to upgraded, and I told them pass. What's the point? iPhone 5 will drop this summer!

I heard that even if the phone is locked the ringet can still be raised. Can u do anything to fix that because thats going to be bad in school if it just goes off in class.

I dont know why anyone would want that crappy kin studio anyway on the loop. Im glad they took it off. this phone is by far the best feature phone by verizion right now period. it has a few problems that need to be fixed but for the most part its a great phone.how many feature phones do u know have wifi like a smart phone? Plus the camera is 720p. You cant beat That

I think this phone is good for texting, calling, pictures, and simple web browsing. All of the extra Windows and The Cloud features are too complicated and you may as well use an ipod for music. I've had the phone for almost a year and a half now.

is this good? i red review on verizon and most people said its bad that you cant even save draft msgs or forward pics and no ringtones? but this is the only neat phone they have in verizon that dont need data plan. :( i need a new phone

Jeez, just so many design flaws. This would have definitely appealed to the former sidekick and pre-BB crowd. But WHY would you indent the audio jack on the Kin 2? Think about using L-jacks with that! And the reviewer mentioned the shutter key placement. Is it really wise to make users compromise the key placement, especially on a phone that touts social media sharing? Fix the hardware, and you'll see the Kin be as ubiquitous among high-schoolers as iPods were.

@halodude1177 T-Mobile is supposed to be making a comeback with the SideKick. Only it will run Android 2.2 Froyo, I think it's called the SideKick Twist or something like that. And it will be made by HTC. Google it. Sounds nice.

@LBTennis Are you right handed? And they didn't discontinue it because no one bought it -- they discontinued it so they could focus primarily on getting Windows Phone 7 out as soon as possible, and as best as possible. Enjoy your phone, good sir. The KIN users are laughing at your coverage.

I have the Kin Onem and last night it turned off and then restarted showing the Verizon logo. Then it said "updating modem" when it would finish loading, it would restart the phone again and repeat the whole process. It has been doing this non-stop and is still going on right now. Does anyone know what to do? Please help!!

@a3rrowman3 It was too expensive! You could buy smartphones sucha s the htc hero for the same price. It wasnt good enough to compete with the competing phones in its price range. The widgets and software arent that good either.
