This is so cut down that it doesn't make sense, they were ordered to decouple IE from Windows (especially in Europe) which ended up complying indirectly with newer versions of windows. It has nothing to do with selling iPhones without iOS.

the analogy of the iOS splitting up from the phone is not valid. Back then, Microsoft was practicing unfair advantages and eliminating competition by putting code in their operating system that provided advantages for their browser and applications like Word. Microsoft was warned for years due to many companies complaining. Read the history before you report on it, and there weren't cell phones back then. Microsoft was playing dirty and we'd have far less options now if they had not been stopped.

MS were then worried about their work on Windows mobile and Windows OS if they were too tied together. Gates was so worried about the ruling, he funded Apple to stay afloat and guaranteed office for Mac wouldn't be depreciated as a browser only suite and left to wither unlike office for windows semi yearly updates. Gates told Apple large sme customers not to flee to windows in case Apple was bought by Oracle and dept justice said it was now a monopoly

anti monopoly laws are great for every industry that isnt tech. I can use yahoo instead of google, i can use linux instead of windows. The choice is there and theres no barrier preventing people from making the choice in time, difficulty or cost.

@@ferdowsurasif IRL if theres a grocery monopoly, you have no choice. One shop, buy or starve or endure some 1h drive to buy bread. Not just groceries, any good or service. Consumer protections in that case is great. For tech, theres a choice i can make that has 0 inconvenience. If i dont like AWS, i can use google cloud. My fingers just move to different keys. If it dont like gmail, i can use proton mail. No cost, no difficult, my fingers just move to different keys. Is netflix charging too much? Amazon prime? Disney plus? Doesnt matter, i press a few different keys and go to a competitor and it cost me no greater time or difficulty to do so. If google has a 90% marketshare, its because people are choosing their products, not because they're a monopoly and people have no choice.
