Just opened my microwave to see if I had the same problem and sure enough i did. You just saved me a lot of money. The only thing different I did was brake the plastic piece and scraped all the brunt plastic, because I didn't have a new connector, but all in all working great.

For the people who ask for the part name, these plastic part for join cables it's an isolated terminal or you can find as ferrule.

My wife mentioned to me about her microwave had a melting plastic smell Everytime she used it. Knowing she uses it a lot while I'm at work, I decided to trash it, even though it is only one year old. I searched it out on KZbin, saw your video and thought, WHY NOT? I figured if nothing else, I'd collect a couple of magnets. Opened it up and what was staring me in the face but TWO terminals with the plastic melting off. 30 minutes later she was microwaving the dogs some hotdogs. You saved me $100.00. Thanks man.

Twenty years ago I used to work for a retail maintenance company who sent many of us on a microwave repair course for a particular make of commercial microwave. The first thing they taught us after disconnecting the mains and taking off the cover was to discharge the capacitor to avoid an electric shock in case it was accidentally touched. Some of the older guys just used to use a long insulated screwdriver to connect the terminals to the body whilst plugged in to the 3 pin power socket which wasn’t switched on. Sometimes they would connect the body to another piece of catering equipment using a long lead with crocodile clips with a known good earth, then use the screwdriver.

You are correct. I am certified in commercial heating and cooling. So capacitor discharge is a good practice when dealing with high volts like AC or microwave. I just didn't on this video because I wasn't messing with anything over 12v. If I was fooling with the electromagnet porting that actually does the heating would I definitely have shown the discharge of the capacitor. I just needed to make a quick vid to help others. Plus I let them know I am not a pro, like you. I only have 2 instances of experience. However I do appreciate you mentioning this. I will add in a discharge in any future vids. Always better to be safe than sorry. Plus it's just makes good practice. Thanks again brother. God bless

And how do I discharge the capacitor?
@bluesrockslide95116 ай бұрын
@@poetfederico google how to discharge a microwave capacitor safely with a resistor. I think it may be a 2K Ohm resistor. Using a screwdriver can cause a spark. If you’re not familiar with this type of work I wouldn’t attempt it, a nasty injury or worse may result.

I dont know much about microwaves either ,but i know they have high voltage capacitors that still hold 1000s of volts even when unplugged, discharge them first before doing anything.

Mine had a smell of burnt and no heat. I think because I kept on using it continuously for like 3 min each time one day and it over heated. Lesson learned

Yes the two wires were in the burnt/melted connector. It may be different for your microwave, not all are wired the exact same. Hope this helps.

@raymondromero2840 Жыл бұрын
It's a butt connector. You can purchase them at Walmart, auto parts stores, or hardware stores like lowes.

You need to always find out the source of the problem, A connector doesn't just burn unless there is bigger problem or a short elsewhere.
@raymondromero28403 жыл бұрын
100 percent correct, I agree. I am a diesel tech and I am well aware of electrical failures and back routing. However I just wanted a quick fix. Also the connector was just melting the surrounding plastic the connector it's self was fine. Thanks though for the heads up. I will probably do a more in-depth trouble shooting video Traci g wire and running the schematic if the microwave brakes or something.
@jp0407593 жыл бұрын
@@raymondromero2840 I would say the factory crimp was crap and age caused corrosion and that cause eventual poor connection that generated all the heat to melt the plastic. Steam from cooking probably accelerated the corrosion. You might consider redoing the connector on the other side of the transformer also. HAPPY NEW YEAR

@@raymondromero2840 thanks, you probably saved me a couple hundred. I've got the same burnt wires. I'm not an electronics expert but looking at the wireing digram in my oven... I think what happed is the thermal cut out tripped and the high voltage was dumped through it which burnt the cut out.
@raymondromero28403 жыл бұрын
@@TheDanlarrabee yeah I'm no expert either, but I keep trying to duplicate the issue so that I could get to the root of the cause. I was able to find that when I put it on defrost 15 min 3 times back to back the high voltage magnetic (HVM) box would begin to get very hot 96+ degrees. And the wire where the plastic melted was at 121+ degrees. I mean I don't use defrost for 45 mi. Very often so it not a problem and I removed the plastic so it won't smell. But I guess if necessary I can replace the HVM to solve the issue for good.
