(Lyrics, please help correcting and filling the blanks!)
If I ?did? ____ through the drizzle and rain
Her curtains rustles as she looks through the pain
Tries to see him, that's ______________
Eyes ?deceiver?, please ?no mistake?
Her life is shadow since he walked out the door
He used to ride her but he won't anymore
Trust in no one, ?lovers can be ?
What ___ window _______ me
She used to be a lovely woman
Hair of gold and voice of ?child?
But now the light ____ the smile
Stay inside and fade with time
If I ?did? ____ through the drizzle and rain
Her curtain rustles as she looks through the ?pain?
Wait so patient _____________

Hello. This is pretty weird. It brings back a lot of fond, happy and sort of painful memories. A friend of mine sent me this link. He KNEW I would know the lyrics because my brother Steve Arrell wrote the song and I sang it! Back in the late sixties and early seventies my brother, Steve, and I had a band called the "Mid Day Rain". We played high school dances and small nightclubs. We also wrote and recorded songs. After we recorded the songs we would send them to A&R guys in L.A. hoping they would listen. One day we got a call from John Florez from RCA records. He said he liked our tape. He couldn't offer us an album deal but he could offer us "four sides" meaning four songs. Of course we agreed! It took about a month because, WE NEVER PLAYED ONE NOTE ON THE RECORDS. They had professional studio cats come in and play all the music. We didn't know this at the time but it was a common practice. When the music was finished, I went down to L.A. and put on the vocal tracks. John Florez said they were going to "sweeten" the tracks with strings and that "fluttering" flute sound. It would take a couple weeks and the song would be released a few weeks after that. We were, of course ecstatic and excited. Back in Portland we waited for about a month and then started "casually" going into record stores and asking if they had a record by a band called the "Mid Day Rain"... 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, NOTHING. We were going crazy! Finally we decided to call John Florez to see what was going on. We were shocked and heartbroken when they told us that "John Flores was no longer employed with RCA Records". Of course we felt horrible, part of me thought they may have fired him because he signed us! but that wasn't the case. So the record was never released. You can see on the picture of the record it says "not for sale". So our big break never came to fruition. The band eventually broke up and we had to grow up and get real jobs. It was pretty disappointing to get that close and then have it all fall apart but even with a bad ending, the process was pretty amazing. So, thanks for posting this and here are the lyrics Hear Friday Mourning through the drizzling rain The curtains rustle as she looks through the pain Tries to see him, pass by the way Eyes deceive her, he's home to stay Her life is shallow since he walked out the door He used to write her but he won't anymore Talks to no one, loud as can be Walks and wonders what's happened to me She used to be a lovely woman, hair of gold and voice of chimes But now the lines crowd her smile, stay inside and fade with time.. Hear Friday Mourning through the drizzling rain The curtains rustle as she looks through the pain Waits so patient for just one thing Hates to see it Friday Mourning She used to be a lovely woman, hair of gold and voice of chimes But now the lines crowd her smile, stay inside and fade with time... Hear Friday Mourning through the drizzling rain The curtains rustle as she looks through the pain

@@gregarrell wow very interesting indeed. I was wondering how a song this good could be so unknown. Your story explains that. There is a lot of obscure music from this era, no doubt many bands probably went through a similar experience as you guys.

@@Mellotron63 I imagine so. Even back then the music biz was very much a "who you know" biz. A lot of A&R guys were actually singers-songwriters who were working at record companies just trying to make connections. Any time I read about a person with a "hit" record, there is usually a reference or connection with somebody already in the biz. Thanks for the kind words. Take care

Hey Greg. I found this after finding "Welcome to the Rain" on KZbin. I remembered the song because of two things. I heard it on the radio in Portland way back when. But more to the point, my mother worked for Equitable Savings and Loan in West Moreland and worked with a man whose son was in your band. If it's who I am thinking it was, several years previous our family went to their home on the west side on the Willamette River and watched 4th of July fireworks at Oaks Park. Long time ago and I was very young so could be mistaken though!
