(Enable closed-captions) FREEEEEEDOMMMMMM!! Yeah folks, under normal circumstances, it doesn't take much convincing for me to swing a leg over a bike and hit the open road, but when that invite comes after a long period of house-arrest (read: lockdown MCO) well would you believe I keyed in the dates onto my phone calendar the moment it was mentioned by Juan during the launch of the Moto Guzzi Centenario? I did. Yes, I'm shameless.
Now before you say it out loud, let me just get this out of the way, yes, at 190cm, I'm a little too tall for a 150cc Vespa, I admit it, BUT as the saying goes, "It's not what you ride, it's that you ride". So it's gonna be pretty easy for you to spot me in the credit scene, courtesy of Vespa Malaysia, haha!
I have a strong connection with the Vespa Sprint 150, as mentioned in the video, I rode this model all the way to Koh Samui, Thailand and back some years ago, and it was one helluva ride. Powered by a 155cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder i-GET engine that's good for 12.9bhp & 12.8Nm of torque, this Sprint Racing Sixties sprints away pretty quickly (#seewhatididthere) and maxes out at 110kmh. Thus while it is indeed highway legal, it's actually more suited for urban/town use.
That being said, the little Sprint R60s didn't seem to mind the monotony of the LPT highway to Kuantan, it just lapped up the miles as best it could, despite being at max throttle 95% of the time. In that respect, it performed really well just by not blowing up or creating a fuss at any time.
With an 8-litre petrol tank, and maxxed out all the way, it still managed to do at least 150kms before a refilling was needed. That's more than enough, since I've found that I usually need to take a break after every 120kms or so anyway. Getting old sucks.
