A rare instance of our tastes diverging! I DNFed Dreadful at 33%. The humor and tone just wasn’t working for me. But happy that you loved it! 💕

I can see that! Humour is so personal. I have dnfed so many books because the humour wasn't working for me!

ooh yes, I love a good book tag! Here are my answers: How is your reading going? I was in a reading slump for most of this year, I read 50 books last year which was a lot for me and I didn’t want to be reading just for reading’s sake so this year has been a bit of a reset but I’ve gotten back into the joy of it recently which is nice Best book you’ve read so far in 2024? Disobedient by Elizabeth Freemantle Best sequel you've read so far in 2024? A Spy Like Me by Kim Sherwood Favourite re-read? Nineteen Eighty-Four Genre you've been loving/reading the most? Non-fiction, I’ve really leant hard into this year. New release you haven't read yet, but want to? Doppelgänger by Naomi Klein (new in paperback at least) Most anticipated release for the second half of the year? Queen B by Juno Dawson, can’t wait to get my hands on it next week Biggest disappointment? The Hex Wives comic Biggest surprise? Vanity Fair Favourite new author? New to me but Nicholas Shakespeare wrote an amazing biography of Ian Fleming Newest favourite character? Gotta give it up for Becky Sharp, the OG girl boss. Book that made you cry? A Spy Like Me, again. It’s an emotional roller coaster Book that made you happy? The Illusions by Liz Hyder Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year? The special edition of A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal What books do you need to read by the end of the year? Julia, Orpheus Builds a Girl, Threadneedle… The list is endless but those are my big three

Love seeing you gush about some of my favorite authors and so glad you enjoyed Winternight! I still haven't picked up the first book but I'm in love with the colors on the cover for The Book That Broke the World, it's just too gorgeous. It's interesting to me that so many folks pick Swordheart as their favorite from T. Kingfisher because it's one of the few that I found kind of boring in parts. 😅 Given our differences on cozy though, you probably will end up loving it more lol. I'm scared of A Sorceress Comes to Call, I started an ARC of it but had to put it down because it's much darker than anything I've read from her so far. Will be curious to hear your thoughts on it.

I love having the chance to gush about books I love! Need to come up with some more video ideas where I can do that 😂 Hahah not at all surprised that you would feel that way about Swordheart if it's cozier. Confirms I'll love it! Good to know Sorceress is a little darker. It is my next eARC after I finish the new Jordan Ifueko! I'll message you.

Gosh I wish I had loved Evocation as much as you did, it was just so aggressively fine to me ouch. The ending made me excited for the sequel tho, so at least there's that. Anyway, YES for The Girl in the Tower and Emperor of Ruin love, those are such strong sequels!! And I am also soooo eager to read The Spellshop asap 🤩 My favourite book of 2024 so far is Hell for Hire by Rachel Aaron, best sequel is probabaly Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff, best surprise has to be Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver, biggest disappointment is probably The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake, and a book that made me happy is A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams and The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna 🥰
@KristinKravesBooks5 ай бұрын
Hahaha I totally hear you and understand about Evocation. It's one of those cases where it's my favourite but I'm not necessarily recommending it 😂 You really do need to read The Spellshop and I need to read Butcher and Blackbird! I have heard The Atlas Complex was completely disappointing. Always a bummer when the final book doesn't stick the landing!
