One of my favorites this year is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks! It's a non-fiction and I didn't expect that much of it but it really touched my heart. I think the way it's written makes it really really good.

Completely agree with you about The Housemaid. It actually put me in a reading slump and I dnfed. My favorite books I've read this year so far are The Women by Kristin Hannah, Parable of the Sower by Octavia E Butler and A Court of Mist and Fury.

Hyped up books are so hit or miss 😅 Ooo interesting mix of faves! The acotar series was definitely a favorite for me last year. Your other two faves aren't typically themes I gravitate toward, but the post apocalyptic setting in Parable of the Sower sounds really intriguing!

@jenseereads yes they are! I was terrified to read Fourth Wing for that reason, but it ended up working for me. The Women I would not recommend to you since you say you don't like sad books. I honestly don't think I've ever cried so much while reading a book, but even tho it was hard I also thought it was really important and shined a light on a time in history I personally didn't know a lot about. One of my favorite scifi tropes is dystopian. Parable of the Sower I thought was great. Octavia E Butler is one of those authors that really makes you think.

And I agree, The Women sounds like maybe something I should pass on 😅 I'm very new to sci-fi, but I can see dystopian being a favorite trope, so I'll definitely add Parable to my list and see how it goes! ☺

omg I feel the exact same way about caraval! I don’t know why I just couldn’t get into it :/ I need to read some of your best books haha (I’m super interested in butcher & blackbird!!) I’ve only had one 5 star this year 😭 hoping to have better luck in the second half of the year 🤞🏼

Reading Caraval/ Legendary was slightly maddening, it really doesn't make sense why I didn't like them more 🥴 Butcher & Blackbird was so fun!! I remember leaving that book and ITHING for the next one. What was your one 5 ⭐️?? 👀

The last few pages of TAB broke me 😅 I have heard that kingdom of ash is heartbreaking too so I'm scared to start it but I can't wait! I love your wyvern necklace, is it Abraxos or just a wyvern? We can all tell how obsessed I am with TOG by my comment 😂

I'm still in shock at how devastated I am from that ending! I've still got a bit before I reach Kingdom of Ash, but ahhh idk how much more heartbreak I can take! 😅 lol My necklace was a Christmas gift, so I'm not sure what it's supposed to be - I always thought it was a dragon....but now that you mention it, it totally does look more like a wyvern! LOL

I feel like most people thought that Pucking Around was too long, I'm one of a few (I imagine there's more than just me) who wanted another 500+ pages. I haven't read Red Rising, but I feel like if you can handle that, Project Hail Mary will be a breeze. I know they're not similar, but I'm afraid of Red Rising so... somewhere in my brain there's some faulty logic going on. If you can connect the dots, well done. Ugh, I am also so excited for A Novel Love Story but I've been hearing not the best things and it's making me kind of ...

Have you read the other books in the Pucking Around series?? And don't be afraid of Red Rising, it's really good!! ..unless you don't like politics and things like that. Not gunna lie idk if I fully grasped everything that was going on at all times LOL but it was an action packed fun read 🚀 Oohhh no!! A Novel Love Story is one of my most anticipated for the year 🥴 I'm starting it next week, hopefully it doesn't disappoint 😬🤞🏻

@@jenseereads I have read them, the next one about Tess and Ryan was probably about a 3.5 but there was a dumb adorable line from Jake that made the book a 5 star for me (when it comes to romances I'm so easy with my 4 and 5 stars) and the novellas are filled with adorable and/or spicy stories. I just adore them all. I'm not sure how I feel about politics, but I do want to read Red Rising eventually, even if it seems scary. my fingers are crossed for you. I have A Novel Love Story on hold on Libby but it's going to be quite the wait.

@@Micmezle I wasn't sure if I was going to continue with the Pucking series, but I think you've convinced me...it took a lot I know 😋lol Hopefully you like Red Rising (I would totally love an update whenever you read it!). And I'm pretty easy to please with romances as well, so as long as A Novel Love Story isn't crazy different to what I'm expecting I should like it................man it's going to really suck if I don't 😂

ah, you’re not alone with the housemaid. i thought it was an okay thriller. i’m in no rush to continue the series. 🤷🏼‍♀️ i preordered the scarlet veil without knowing it was a spinoff series 🤭 glad to hear that you liked the serpent + dove series, i should get that trilogy as i’d really like to read the scarlet veil. this was fun to watch! happy reading and good luck with your goal! 💜

I'm glad I'm not the only one! 😅 I don't think I'm going to continue with the Housemaid series. I don't feel like I need more of that story and also I haven't been hearing very good things about the third 🙃 And I would definitely recommend reading Serpent & Dove, it'll give you a lot of backstory on the characters for Scarlett Veil. My favorite books so far this year have been A Court of Wings & Ruin, Happy Place, Funny Story, and The House In The Cerulean Sea. My disappointments have been The Serpent and the Wings of Night and The Dead Romantics (I wanted more story of the love interest and romance but I loved the vibes).
