Nice walk through of functions. Our sound man used this at our last gig and recorded 32 channels out to a Mac with ProTools. Recording came out flawlessly,, simple setup. Mic pres are super clean.

Can you explain your thought process behind mixing the vocals last? I normally build a mix by starting with the most present parts, so I don't have to fight to fit the important channels into a mix at the last minute. I struggle to think of a time when I've ever wanted to place lead vocals in the back of a mix.
@jasonschannel95265 жыл бұрын
Doesn't look like he's gonna answer, but I can give my thoughts on that subject. I like to start with the foundation, getting the drums to sit well with the bass, then work my way up to guitars and keyboards. It's not that vocals are the least important in a mix, it's quite the opposite. Once I have everything else set, I can adjust that overall balance and layer the vocals over the top of the mix. Once the instruments are balanced, I can use DCAs to quickly adjust balance as he was demonstrating in the video. I have a Behringer X32 console at the venue I work for and it's essentially the same as the Midas M32, the interface and looks is slightly different, but the software is the same between the two consoles.

Great Video! I'm thinking about purchasing this desk for my studio/mastering house. However, I'm having a hard time finding answers to a few questions I have. If I could get my hands on one I could probably figure it out fairly quickly but there's none to be found where I'm located. If you wouldn't mind answering a few questions that would be fantastic. The BIG question ...Will this desk record 32 tracks to DAW or Flash drive simultaneously? If so, at what bit rate and resolution i.e. 44.1, 48, etc? Also, what DAW were you using when you tracked this? Thx in advance for your help.
@florese29585 жыл бұрын
yes, you can record all 32 channels in DAW, you can choose your bit rate, you can also record 2 track to usb.
@johnp4285 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you just need to select the routing in the home page to "Card Out" as the Midas has an inbuilt 32 I/O interface (USB 2.0). Also for the resolution, yes it depends what you choose. But it does change if you alter the M32 Card to either MADI or DANTE. For the most part, just select the resolution in the console to match that of your DAW.

I wanted to build on what the others said, I've personally used these functions, very easy to do, you can also playback those channels through the board again for training, practice, virtual soundcheck, etc.

Gifted hands ? I’m assuming he has a laptop plugged in via USB and is routing the tracks in the DAW into each separate channels
@bassplayinggoalie5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you will have found it by now ...but under Routing, change the inputs from 'Local' to 'Card' (e.g. change Inputs 1-8 from 'Local 1-8' to 'Card 1-8)'. Don't forget to change them back for the next gig!
