This is such a great series, it's clear you love the texts! 😊 Also, don't worry too much about still mispronouncing things. Tolkien left a lotta rules..almost too many... and there are so many names 😅

Tolkien chooses North for morgoth, I think, due to Europe northern nations extended periods of darkness. "Land of the midnight sun." Morgoth creates a darkness around himself, so most likely tolkein drew upon that idea. As for sauron, he is representing the middle east and the crusades.

I am familiar with many world mythologies, and I know of no traditions which have luminous trees as the world's light source. As far as I know the Two Trees are unique to Tolkien.

Nope. Valenor was lite by trees. Middle earth had only star light after the lamp fell down.

Note: you need to learn how to pronounce elven names. It's not ball-rog.
@LotRLorecast9 ай бұрын
Yup. I'm terrible with elven words. I learned them all from reading before movies or the internet made it easier for everyone to hear them and learn, and foreign language is extremely difficult for me. I know this is a big sticking point for parts of the community, so I'm trying to do better. Also, these episodes were recorded over a year ago for the audio podcast feed and are just now being turned into video. Hopefully you'll see some improvements as the episodes go forward, but I'm 100% I still mess up words. If that's a deal-breaker, I totally understand. Thanks for checking out the video anyway.

@@LotRLorecast No, it's not a big problem. You should try to learn, just to honor Tolkien. He left us clear instructions, and the elven names are read completely phonetic, one letter one sound. a as in fAther, e as in pEt, i as in babY, o as in pOt, u as in bOOt. Also c always as K, ch as in loCH, th as THing, dh as THat. And groups of vowels each separately, eh-ah-rendil, ah-oo-leh. That's the basis. Just let go of English.

@arnorrian1 Thanks. Yeah, letting go of English is the hard part. 😉
