Thanks! And go for it. It's worth a read, especially if you take it slow.

Last year I read almost everything except the histories of middle earth. Reading the same stories told completely different for the 3rd or 4th time was getting overwhelming and I needed a break 😅 I was surprised how much story predated what I saw in the movies and TV show. Believe it or not the TV show was what started my Tolkien bringe read last year. I'm in my 40s so you can never be too old to get into this stuff.

Following the pronunciation guide of LOTR appendices, Cuivienen might be pronounced as: Kuy-vee-ye-nen; as "C" always has the value of the sound "K", much like the "C" in "Celeborn", hence "Keleborn". The diphthong "ui" is "uy" AFAIK. Hope this helps. Awesome video.

I would say KWEE-vee-yen-en.

We are told that the origins of the orcs as corrupted elves was that was believed by the Eldar and the Valar, likely as no other being with a voice existed yet save for the Maia followers of Melkor. In the movies it's Saruman who says "they were elves once. Taken by the Dark Power's. Twisted, mutilated". Whilst this is the most common and believed one, Tolkien gave four origins for the orcs! Check them out. I think it will be intresting. Two side notes, neither the Valar or Maiar could create new, independent life, but Sauron created werewolves! Also, only Melain could conceive a child!

I know this video is about the Elves and the Valar. But watching this video (great video btw) just made me wonder why the Valar are so hands-on with the elves but not with man. Like were SUPER involved with the Elves and their development, but was there ever a time when they sought to know the second children of Illuvatar?
@@joeygenesyeah I did it at 2x and still felt he was going slow, can’t imagine what it was like at 1x

Dude. The bright one is Venus, not Mercury.
@LotRLorecast9 ай бұрын
Dude. You're right. It also depends on if Venus has passed the horizon yet. If not, Mercury is often the first star-looking light we can see, just over the horizon near where the sun went down.

Angband. Sauron manned Angband. It was Melkor's westernmost fortress.

I think 🤔 the bright star 🌟 near the moon 🌕 is usually Venus
@LotRLorecast9 ай бұрын
Yes, Venus is brighter. Mercury is closer to the sun and is often one of the first star-like lights in the sky. I also goofed by saying moon. Oops.

The morning star and the evening star reference the brightest planet, Venus, not Mercury.
@josephperry11688 ай бұрын
The morning star was NOT created at this time, the brightest star in this time was Hellion now identified as Sirius, the Dog Star.

Wasn’t orcs their own race ❓ Wasn’t it the Uruk-hai that were former elves ? 🧝♀️
@TheDJMeyer859 ай бұрын
Originally Tolkien said they were their own race but then he eventually changed that to orcs being former elves that were captured and tortured by Melkor. Uruk-hai were orcs crossed with goblins, I believe

@@TheDJMeyer85I heard somewhere that goblins are orcs and orcs are goblins just different name for the same creature. Uruk ahai are orcs that were selectively bred by Saruman.
@LotRLorecast9 ай бұрын
@@TheDJMeyer85 Tolkien was never 100% sure exactly where the orcs came from. They went from being twisted and broken elves to elves and men to both of those ideas not feeling right to him later in life. The Uruk-hai were crossbred orcs with humans. The names Orc, Uruk, and Goblin are basically interchangeable but generally used to indicate different sub-breeds or groups.
