Before you say I missed "I Sat By The Ocean" -- it didn't really contribute to the narrative but it does have an excellent hook and melody with some pretty cool harmonized guitars. It features some staple QOTSA lyricism: macho but emotional. What's your favourite track off ...Like Clockwork? And why is it "I Appear Missing"?

Honestly, probably the title track. While it’s true that it’s the least QOTSA-sounding song, it had so much impact on me when i listened to the album in order for the first time. With the proper context the song feels so raw and almost confessional like Homme’s done hiding behind his masculinity in songs like Smooth Sailing and I Sat By The Ocean.

In December of 2015 I had a really bad accident on my high school swim team in which I broke my neck, drowned to death, got resuscitated, went to the icu for two weeks and ended up having to learn how to live life with a spinal chord injury. All this to say that I Appear Missing is not just representative of Josh Homme’s death experience but as a whole it captures the surreal feel of learning to appreciate life. This album is one of my favorites but specifically I Appear Missing for that reason. This album to me is about growth in every sense of the word. I hope whoever reads this is appreciating their life too.

Upon seeing the title I was like "What tragedy?" It's one of the best album last decade. I even said that statement during my first listen back in '13. After a couple of years, the record is and still a masterpiece.

This is my favorite by QOTSA and in my top ten of all time. This record helped me through the darkest time of my life and will be forever grateful to them for getting me through it. On first few listens, I didn't 'get it', but when it clicked, I was hooked forever.

The Era Vulgaris diss, ouch. It's not uninspired, it's the classic QOTSA vibe! One of my favorite albums! Like Clockwork is a good number two, cause I have a big thing for the roadtrip vibe on SOTD.

One of my favourite albums of all time. On my 18th birthday a friend decided to sneak off to a record store and get me an album as a belated gift, I had never really listened to queens before and was procrastinating listening to it, with the thought I’d hate it in my mind. One day I just put it on and kept listening the whole way through, I was amazed at it I didn’t even understand half of it or the reasons and stories behind the lyrics. Making this video a god send! So cheers I guess

I know you said that "I Sat By The Ocean" didn't really contribute to the narrative, but I think it describes itself as being a symbol of rose-tinted glasses, where Josh speaks to his own shortcomings and mistakes, but just realizes it's him, his mistakes, and a lie he used to cover them up. At the end, he has to face up to what he's hidden from himself and others, and he's left with nowhere to hide. What started out as passing ships in the night, becomes things that violently crash together.
