I grew up before cell phones. I had all of my friends home telephone numbers memorized, now I have trouble remembering even my own phone number sometimes. The numbers are stored in my cell phone why would I use my brain. A.I will be the same, everyone will let A.I do the thinking for them. This will have far worse implications than simply not having to remember phone numbers anymore. Lawyers are using it to research precedents to form their defense. Doctors using it to cross reference medications. Police using it to solve crimes etc. This is just the beginning. Soon everyone will be banned from driving cars because A.I driving is a safer alternative. “It’s for everyone’s safety” just like Covid when everyone was forced to wear a mask. Until it became the norm and then people would get mad when they seen someone without a mask and report them.

While I support many of the threads he talks about esp. on creativity and originality, I have been involved with AI for more 40 years and I see it as an invaluable way to deploy fixed learning to a wide base and have consistent responses esp. in mission and safety critical endeavours as invaluable. Adding randomness into parts of the processes can aid a learning process. I don't have a TV, but likewise am a musician so strongly buy into the importance of talent and creativity. The danger is when people rely solely on AI and process automation and stop thinking, instead of using the knowledge as a stepping stone to further heights.

The number of things that will be possible will go up, but the percentage of all known things each person will know will go down. The number of things we each know how to do won’t change significantly, however the probability that any two people will share similar knowledge on a thing will decline. So there will be a lot of things that people are individually ignorant of, but that doesn’t mean no one knows how to do them. AI will merely magnify this gap between the total knowledge of the world and the knowledge of the individual. Dumbing down isn’t the necessary result of that.

Isn't that exactly the same argument for most things? It was the same when civilization began, and humans started living in homes. They became dependent on farming and forgot how to hunt, among other skills. As technology advanced and civilization grew more complex, we abandoned old skills and learned new ones that became the norm. Thus, you become dependent on the innovations that civilization introduces. You either adapt or fall behind. Sometimes, certain advancements fail and eventually disappear.

It's literally like watching your friends and family standing in line to jump off a cliff and hoping someone will catch them 2000 feet below but you know how it really will end. And until they turn off their television or radio or any device you know you will NEVER get through to them. It takes courage to wake up and admit that you have been conditioned, manipulated, or simply BRAINWASHED into being a "sheeple" over the course of your entire life and unfortunately almost all westerners fall into that category. I call them the smart idiots. All these people in AI, with huge technical and maths knowledge in the 0.001%, but with the wisdom and temper of a spoiled child. They are literally digging humanity's grave and they think it's cool.

I am 42 years old and haven't owned a television since October 2023. Maybe once or twice a week I will watch a movie using AR Glasses and that's it. My time is spent studying, learning new things, working on my business and trying to be a decent human. I am not into religion but like following Torah and the Gospel as instructed in Surah 3.48 وَيُعَلِّمُهُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ ٤٨ And Allah will teach him writing and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel.

This verse refers to the prophecy regarding Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him). Allah declares that Isa will be granted knowledge of the divine scriptures, wisdom, and specific revelations of the Torah and the Gospel. It highlights Isa’s role as a prophet, guided by divine knowledge and wisdom. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came after Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) after approximately 600 years. Prophet Muhammad served as the final messenger of Allah, conveying the ultimate guidance for humanity. Surah Al-Ahzab number: 33:21: "Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah, you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often."

This is such an interesting conversation. Cuz to an extent it’s just old head talk, but he’s making some good points. Humans who complain about the misinterpreting of technology by the mass of humans doesn’t get what technology is. Efficiency and laziness run parallel.

Thanks for talking about this issue of 😈 AI. This is actually THE issue of our times that it is unbelievable isn't at the forefront. There are serious serious problems with this technology and who owns it and how it's already undermining the essence of our humanity

This resonates. At 62, I have never owned a TV. No social media except FB for family connections. I use my phone as a phone. I get my info/news from carefully selected channels on the internet. No one understands me, but I understand them.

I call these times we live in; "Information Overload Era", with the vast majority of the info most are consuming to be absolute garbage. There's a saying; "you are what you eat", Information of all sorts; communication in person, social media, watching movies, etc. whatsoever one gives attention to is food to the brain, on both a conscious & subconscious level. And like consuming junk food, food stripped of all nutritional value & filled with chemicals & excessive sugars eventually leads to poor health & early death like wise excessive consumption of Information that doesn't help the mind to think properly.

I don’t know of a single great influential figure who cultivated their uniquity by being like their family members. His point is better founded upon meeting and talking to members of the wider community. Normatively, influence is worst from corporate mass media because it makes you a pawn. It is second best from family, they’re real people but the pool is too small. After all, you were formed not as a copy but as a combination between contrasts. The best influence is talking to strangers. This is the virtue of the rules of “polite society.” Live wherever you can talk deeply and enthusiastically with the strangers around. There are thousands of places. Some that stand out to me in the states: Portland, Austin, and North Dakota.
