Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad

On Saturday September 9, 1989 the Chesapeake Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts held a special rare mileage excursion over the entire Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad in Pennsylvania. It was the first passenger train to run over the entire line in fifty years. This video is an historical record of that excursion.

Wonder what the current status of the road is and if this trip was repeated. It would be great if someday they figured a way to reincorporate these tracks into revenue producers and help pave the way for future improvements. I really believe that in the future these kinds of tracks will end up back in commuter service to help clear off the overcrowded highways and give us a cleaner and cheaper alternative. I think it can be done, but you're going to need forward thinkers who want to make it work.

It really is a shame how much of the landscape along this line has been destroyed by development in the last few decades. It used to be a pretty scenic ride.

I currently live near Hummelstown and this railroad is historic. My every hope is that it never disappears like others have!!🚂🚃
