Midge was the human beating heart of this movie. Scottie was a dummy for not realising the person who loved him was there the whole time.

She loved him but he never loved her. Not his fault. He never led her on. She was in his friendzone.

And yet...Midge called off the engagement with Scottie
@philrob1978 Жыл бұрын
@@michaeljmobley I know it's been a whole year, but yes. Which makes it all the more tragic. They were essentially perfect for each other, but he couldn't see it. And she was loyal to him, except to the point that a doctor convinced her that he wasn't coming back. That slow walk away she does from the hospital room is heartbreaking.

Always loved Midge's apartment.

Midge's apartment is a cocoon, a warm welcoming and safe space. The yellow walls, the framed art, and her works-in-progress stacked about her workspace along with the million-dollar view all contribute to its' inviting appearance. In this scene the down to earth Midge has shed her pastel sweaters for a shocking deep red, only the second time in the film where reds dominate. Midge is suddenly worried and jealous that she's about to lose her man, a man with whom she broke an engagement 10 or 15 years earlier yet a man who's remained in her life and never married- "Available Fergueson". She realizes he'll soon be gone from her life because he's so enthralled by Madeline Elster. Now she wants Scotty to see her differently, her red sweater screams, "Look at me, I don't want to lose you!" But poor Midge has no chance against this Venus. Her practical joke has backfired miserably, and she now knows Scotty is a lost cause for her; we do and should feel badly for her.

Midge was the true heroine of the movie, but she was up against too much. Scottie was right about one thing, though. The "Portrait of Midge" wasn't funny. She knew something was off with Elster's story, but she didn't know what, and right after her disastrous move, Gavin and Judy moved in for the kill, both literally and figuratively.

She was another Carlotta Valdes like Madeline and Judy. Scotty was emotionally done with her when he got the information from the owner of the Argossy. The framing shows Scotty rejecting her.
