Music Fiends recently had the honor of putting Midge Ure, the frontman of the groundbreaking electrorock band Ultravox, Under the Probe! Midge, also of Visage and Thin Lizzy fame, helped form Band Aid where he produced and co-wrote the smash hit charity single 'Do They Know It's Christmas,' which is still one of the biggest-selling singles in UK music history, and he co-organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof. Most of his career, which spans over 5 decades, has been spent touring the globe playing solo and with Ultravox who reformed in 2009.
If he had a choice, what superpower would he pick? If he could time travel to the past, where would he go? Watch the clip to find out….
Midge, who recently celebrated his seventieth birthday with a one-night only concert at The Royal Albert Hall, is gearing up for a North American tour, dubbed 'Band In A Box', that kicks off at Daryl's House in Pawling, NY on August 7 and wraps in Ft. Lauderdale on September 12.
Midge says of the tour: “Lots of people asking me to clarify what ‘Band in a Box’ actually is. It consists of myself on electric guitar, synthesiser and vocals alongside my long time keyboard player Charlie Round-Turner playing live with various loops, samples and programmed drums. A band in a box! This format allows me to perform a full band performance with a ’stripped down’ duo. I will be playing a range of material from my long and varied career. From early Ultravox and Visage to recent solo material. Who knew two people could make so much noise?”
Ure head out on a European jaunt before coming to North America. He is also still hosting his Backstage Lockdown Club, which gives fans exclusive access to a series of intimate, musical events on a monthly subscription basis.
Ure is currently working on three albums including a follow-up to Fragile, and Orchestrated Pt. 2, in addition to a completely instrumental album.
