This doesn't surprise me. I recently made a trip over to the UK to visit my parents/friends. One thing I noticed was that they seem to be removing the word Christmas from everything. I saw Christmas lights on sale somewhere, only they were calling them 'chaser' lights. And some other place advertising Christmas dinner as 'festive' dinner. What an absolute joke!

In a town called Stourbridge there was a pub called The Labour In Vain. The picture and I think the stained glass was of a black boy with a white woman trying to scrub him white. I think there was some kind of uproar about it a while back. I'm black, I used to pass it to see an ex girlfriend. Didn't find it offensive at all because it would be a labour in vain to scrub a black man white. 😂

It used to be thought unlucky to change a pub's name. I remember the Bull and Crown got changed to the Slug and Lettuce. I think people stopped using it until the name got changed back. The architecture of the building was stunning and very old. You saying "Mucky Duck', Dave, reminded me of the Mucky Mallard in Shakespeare and Hathaway. People moaning about the name of a sports car, what next!? 🙄😤

I live near Abingdon. I have been passed that pub a few times, but never tried It out. Back In the 90's, I did live behind a pub called, The Brahms and Liszt. The name was meant to mean the composers. There were complaints. Unfortunately the pub had to be re named. ☹
