Its incredible how advanced midi guitar has become. I believe one of the very first,if not the first use on record was Hacketts GTR way back in 85 when I'm sure things like latency must have been a nightmare. Really enjoy these long videos, Colin!

Great video, Colin! Another nice thing about Midi Guitar 2 is the ability to mix in your natural guitar tones. It even has quite a few amps and effects for those guitar tones. You can even use a midi or Bluetooth controller to hold the synth notes/chords and jam over the top with your normal guitar tones.

Thanks, Phil! Yes, this app is very deep and has lots of functionality. I was only looking at presets and using AUV3 apps here. Interesting to hear about the use of Bluetooth controllers!

Nice run-through, Colin, thanks! One thing I just discovered that works beautifully with MG2 is putting it in AUM with the 4pockets MIDI layers app… it lets you set up routings and program changes and (I’m sure) lots of other things I haven’t tried yet. One thing I would love to see a video of is some basic info about how to set the Gain, Tone, Curve, and Noise Gate settings; it appears they have a lot to do with how well it tracks.
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne Жыл бұрын
Thanks, George! That workflow, using 4pockets Midi Layers sounds interesting. I found I didn't need to touch the Gain, Tone, Curve or Noise Gate settings (though the gain may have been useful for lowering the volume of some of the SM2 presets in this demo!). The tracking worked pretty well with the default settings using my Strat. I think some tweaking may be needed if I was to use my Les Paul though because of the "hotter" pickups, which are not noiseless like the ones on my Strat.

I was just messing around with this app yesterday again after i saw that Midi Guitar 3 is jn the works for desktop. It might take some time before we get to see the iOS version i guess, but it is cool to revisit this one again. Cool video Colin 👍

thanks for the review, since this program is so underated its hard to find some other reviews to learn and discover about the capabitlities and what other users thinks about the app,, i am using this since the first version in IOS but i never dig into it since i am using a harwre all the time and this time i manage to adapt to pc version a lot of free amazing plugins also in pc,,, it was a straight forward software just need a properly tuned and intonated guitar even without midi pickup,any Audio Interface, a DI Box for proper signals it even supports a wireless midi controller it was amazing to use, no need to bother buy expensive midi pedals if dont needed to,, thanks for the review

Hi Colin, sounds great. Can I ask how you are settling up as a stand alone without a DAW. I have a focusrite solo, and can't get the interface to get a guitar signal to the software. I have selected the interface and set latency, I hear guitar through the interface but not going through MG2,any advice would be great, thanks

Hi Collin ! very nice your video. One question: if you had to compare the Guitar MIDI 2 with the PD Space Guitar, which one would you choose? The version that allows you to connect MIDI 2 to the rest of the apps on my iPad or AU3 is twice as expensive as the PD Space Guitar. It is justified to pay this difference. Thanks!
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Gabriel. It depends on what type of sounds you want to use really. With PD Space Guitar you get mainly spacey guitar sounds, or whatever you can program. With Midi Guitar 2 and the IAP you can get a huge range of sounds, including real instrument samples/sounds and you can use your AU FX apps as well.

Great video. How do you record a video with MIDI Guitar 2 on?
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne 11 ай бұрын
I use the screen record function of my iPad to capture the Midi guitar audio and use my phone for the video of me using Midi Guitar and then use a video editor (on my iPad or Mac e.g. Luma Fusion) to synchronise the two videos and mute the audio in the appropriate sections e.g. mute the phone audio when I am playing guitar. Hope that helps.

I have a hardware midi guitar which plays well for the majority of things, but it won’t let you hammer off to an open string, or do bends. Although it does have a tremolo arm, and a nice mode for tapping. It also has a small joystick for modulation near the scratch plate. The latency on it is not noticeable. Haven’t used it in a while but it’s great with iOS and really nice with my analog gear. I have my eyes on a better one but it’s about £800 pounds and since I’m not really a guitarist I’m not sure I can justify the cost.

@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne 8 ай бұрын
Hi Daniel. It depends how you mean. Yes, you can add an AUV3 impulse loader to the fx chain in AUM, for example, (or even select it from inside Midi Guitar 2 if you have the AUV3 IAP) and play Midi Guitar output through that.

As well as the built in sounds of Midi Guitar 2 I loaded Tone Boosters Flowtones synth (£9.99), KV331 SynthMaster 2 (£24.99) and Yonac Steel Guitar Pro (£9.99) - you can also get the non-Pro Steel guitar for £0.99. But there are plenty of free AUV3 apps that will also work in Midi Guitar 2 - hope that helps

If I couldn't see you, I'd swear you were on a keyboard. It's amazing what you can get out of the app. Just a quick FYI, the music part of this was extremely loud compared to you talking. Not for all presets but quite a lot. I had to turn my volume right down for the music but could barely hear you speak. No complaint, simply pointing it out. 🙂

Thanks, Elwaves. Yes, I had a problem when editing that I didn't want to hear the guitar strings through my phone mic so I had to split the phone video and mute audio where I could and I realised my voice was quiet as well. Some of the SynthMaster presets are indeed very loud though.

How are you running your guitar to the ipad? What interface do you use?
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne
@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne Жыл бұрын
Hi Cheeks. I plug my guitar into my Presonus Srudio24c Audio Interface, which in turn plugs into my iPad via a USB hub and Apple dongle from USB-A to USB-C. My audio interface does use USB-C but I use the hub so I can easily add midi Controller Keyboards and synths when recording on my iPad.
@TheCheeksMiller
@TheCheeksMiller Жыл бұрын
@@ColinPowell_AMultitudeofOne figured it was something of that nature. I need to set this up. I have a hub that plugs into the pad with a power pass thru. Could then run my Scarlett 8i6 into it.
