Great Paul! I was telling friends today, that the fact of bringing a Guitar player to play so beautifully well Keith Emerson’s part represents the best Tribute to Keith by avoiding bringing a another keyboard player, I mean; Carl can bring Rick Wakeman and have him play exactly what Keith used to play; however bringing a Guitar player to do that part so well and so majestically performed, completes the respectful tribute to Mr. Emerson. Don’t you agree?

very inspirational, amazing playing, so i decided to try it, but have no idea how you set it up so smooth. To me it`s either too much ghost notes and overly sensitive in general or half of notes aren`t triggered. Didn`t find a sweet spot yet. And i`m also using string muter. Would be interesting to see your settings (in case you`re still using it)
@PaulBielatowicz
@PaulBielatowicz Жыл бұрын
I'm still using it - still the central part of my rig when it comes to midi sounds. One tip I can give you is that some sounds will react/trigger better than others for some reason. If you use sounds with a very harsh attack, such as a piano, you might find you get a lot more mis-triggers than if you were using a sound with a softer attack such as a synth lead. In terms of sensitivity, I set the gain on my audio interface to as low as possible - that really helps when it comes to any false triggers due to string noise etc. Hope that helps!

Hey Paul. I've been a GR55 user for years and years and I can't believe this thing can do better tracking without a hex pickup. (But I'm slowly becoming convinced). Now that you'e used for awhile, are you looking at a MainStage setup or just running as a standalone?
@PaulBielatowicz

Hey Michael, have you tried the demo on their website? It’s free and fully functional (I think the save function is disabled?). I’d encourage you to check it out. I’m running it as a standalone, and since this video was filmed started using IK Multimedia SampleTank to load multiple instruments so I can switch quickly between them by having MG2 switch midi channels. Works great and seamless switching between sounds as I no longer have to wait for new samples to be loaded.

@@PaulBielatowicz I bought it. I just got around to really playing with it and am pretty impressed. I use a Fractal and GR55 for Live Gigs which is great but bulky and I'm thinking of trying a rig with Overloud THU (The best of the sims I've found so far ) and MidiGuitar 2 (SampleTank is a great idea) hence the MainStage idea. That would also let me use the midi footswitch with visual cues per preset as to what the buttons may do differently. By the way as a lifelong ELP fan (my first concert in 1975) kudos for what you do and amazingly how you do it!!

Sounds amazing Paul! I still have an early Roland GR9 but I very well may be upgrading to a Midi Guitar 2 after seeing and hearing this. Hello Paul, this looks great! I downloaded the trial version, but I do have some latency problems, despite my high-end computer. After recording and inspecting the PRV on my DAW, I also see a lot of notes I never played. Does that ring a bell with you?
@PaulBielatowicz
@PaulBielatowicz 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter. Hmm, I have heard there is more latency when using it as a plugin on a DAW, rather than a standalone live performance app. To be honest, I’ve never used it in a DAW so can’t comment on that, but there is practically zero latency on my 2018 MacBook Pro using the standalone app. As for the false triggers, I find that’s a lot to do with how you have your audio interface set. For best results I recommend having the input gain on your interface as low as possible - that way only notes you mean to play register. There’s also a built in gate on the MG2 standalone app that should help filter out mis-triggers from string noise, but again that’s something I’ve not tried - lowering the input gain has always done the trick for me. Hope that helps!

@PaulBielatowicz
@PaulBielatowicz Жыл бұрын
This was my old laptop, so I had it on the slowest settings. Doubling the guitar amp, the latency isn't really noticeable for me - in fact a little latency is quite nice as it thickens the sound, but I have the latency on faster settings now I have a newer macbook pro. I think it also depends on what samples/plugins you're using - I have some really nice IK Multimedia sounds that my old computer struggled with, but less processor-heavy sounds such as the ones in this video ran super-smooth. Hope that answers your question. :)

Logic is OTT for what do. But audacity crashes on my Mac & now using my profilers the tracks are always 5&6 rather than1&2 so not ideal. Even just cutting & pasting sections in logic is difficult. Do you know of a more basic daw more like Audacity but that's more reliable, in other words won't crash?

@PaulBielatowicz

I’d be surprised if there was noticeable latency in this video, but I wouldn’t rule it out - you’re hearing the sound from my monitor speaker, which is coming from the soundboard at the back of the arena, so the signal is being passed from one end of the arena and then back again - that will cause some latency. Also, there are 3 processing speeds you can choose from in MG2 - this is set to the slowest (most latency), as I was using a relatively old laptop for this tour. So, with a faster laptop you could achieve 3x less latency. I very much suspect the other factors are playing more of a part in what you’re seeing, such as the size of the arena and monitor signal routing, rather than the latency coming from MG2.

I use a string mute mainly for all the tapping I do - it definitely helps minimise false-triggers, but certainly not essential when using MG2 - the majority of the time I'm playing without the string mute in place. The real secret to stopping false triggers with MG2 is to set the gain on your audio interface to as low as you can get away - just high enough for MG2 to hear the notes you're intending to play, while ignoring any unintentional string noise. Hope that helps!

It would be VERY nice if you'd also mention the clicking artifacts created by this software. You can't record with this software for TWO reasons. If you ask this to produce polyphony sustain....it offers you CLICKS that do not let you record with it. The software is confused. Also.....it hogs my ASIO driver so I can't record with it and use the DAW simultaneously. Lol....the days of mini-pickups are most CERTAINLY still here....and if you buy this software solely on the word of this video...and you wanted to record with it...waste of money.
@PaulBielatowicz
@PaulBielatowicz 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stuart, thanks for your comment. It sounds like the clicking sound you’re experiencing could be the CPU maxing out. I’ve had something similar when I’ve been trying to run too many programs at once on an older computer. I’ve never actually used MG2 with a DAW - any recording I’ve done with it has been audio from my laptop running MG2 as a standalone program. I primarily use it for live performances. It would make sense that the clicking issue you’re experiencing is CPU/RAM related if it’s happening while using a DAW. There’s a great forum on the Jam Origin website - not sure if you’ve asked about the clicking issue on there, but I would imagine someone with more knowledge than me about the software can shed more light on it. Hope that helps 🙂
