these are rarely beyond repair. just this week i decided to attack a fixin up pile and every single time swapping out electrolytics restored 5 of them to working order. theres a 10ohm resistor near the final upstream from your driver which i pull and use as a tap points for the NPC mod. also found one of them didnt have thermal grease so i pulled the final and there was a HG 2sc1969 smiling at me so in a total failure to resist temptation it got that dropped in with a fresh greased up mica insulator and hits around 25. with just a tune out on a stingy mfj meter. i also will only use the TIP120 version of the NPC mod and will only use 50v 100uf caps for that. but my opinion here i think what this radio needs the most is a recap with the electrolytics

Nice to see someone tune a radio and not trying to get the last bit of wattage and modulation. When will cbers learn that 4 watt cb's aren't made to do much more than that. People take good sounding radios and turn them into extra loud mush that you can barely understand what they are saying. Good work!!!

Thank you exactly! Just getting the most swing and modulation on a meter says nothing about the actual sound quality and longevity of the equipment.
