I love Rope. How Hitchcock filmed the whole movie in one stage like set.

And it was all shot to look like it was in one continuous take. That was truly a marvel at that time

Rope is my favorite of this set.

"Rope" has become my favorite Hitchcock, and that's tough competition. The dialogue is pretty fascinating (in a very dark way) and never boring. And yes, the Jimmy Stewart factor 👍

I love Rope! The color and clarity, the dialog and premise/tension, and the female lead is so beautiful!!

Thank you so much for your review Ken. I love Jimmy Stewart.....I try to collect all of his movies. I did buy the 1st Alfred Hitchcock set (Love all those movies), I did not buy the 2nd or 3rd Alfred Hitchcock sets (Don't care for too many of these movies). However, I did buy the individual 4K's for "Rope" and "The Man Who Knew Too Much" to complete my Alfred Hitchcock with Jimmy Stewart collection ("Vertigo" and "Rear Window", being the other two movies). So now I have all the Alfred Hitchcock movies that starred Jimmy Stewart. Good to know that these 2 newer 4K's were an improvement over past releases (I still need to watch them yet). Thanks again for your very informative review.....much appreciated (as always!!)

If you're a fan of "Rope", check out the 1959 film, "Compulsion", which was also based on the Leopold-Loeb case. Orson Welles plays the defense attorney and the rest of the cast is also excellent. Kino Lorber has an excellent Blu-ray version.

Better than stacking the disks on top of each other. I'm still shaking my head regarding the Limited 4K bible boxset of The Exorcist.

I’ve picked up every one of the Alfred Hitchcock Classic Collection Box sets. I think “Rope” looks amazing on this set. It was based on the real life 1929 case of Leopold and Loeb. I can’t wait to see the rest of these this weekend. One item I’ll mention is that the digital code redeems on Movies Anywhere in 4K but even though my Vudu account is connected to MA, it doesn’t appear that Vudu itself offers these in 4K yet as the other Hitchcock films from the previous box sets.

I grabbed all 3 sets off Gruv with my 20% off so got ALL of these for like $112 (Vol 1 - 3)😉 New to exploring Hitchcock as I’m only familiar with Pyscho and Birds. So I’m VERY much excited to explore all his filmography. Thanks for showing and discussing as you certainly peeked my interest in these films.

Torn Curtain follows the formula of North By Northwest (also known from Sabotage and established in 39 Steps). It's my favourite of those kinds of Hitchcocks and also his last in this style.

I pre-ordered mine on Gruv, and lately I've been getting my orders from them way early. I watched The Man Who Knew Too Much last night. I enjoyed the presentation. I'll be watching Torn Curtin soon, a movie I actually saw in a theater way back when neighborhood theaters was a thing.

I love the hitchcock collection! I only bought rope on 4k i was shown this movie in flim class in high school and i fell inlove! I never bought the bluray because i knew it would get a 4k one day! And it looks amazing!

FRENZY marked Hitchcock's return to England, after years away, and the suspense comes from your knowing the killer. Volume 2 did have SHADOW OF A DOUBT which was Hitchcock's personal favorite.

The Man Who Knew Too Much actually has the 2.0 mono but it also has a brand new restored 3.0 Perspecta track which was the original theatrical audio. It outputs as a 5.1 but only 3 speakers are on. Sounds amazing on a 3.1 soundbar lol

I've only seen Rope and TMWKTM so far but it's been impressive. Using tyvek sleeves to help protect the discs from the crappy packaging.

I think you should watch Torn Curtain in its entirety. It's very underrated imo. It might be true that it isn't a masterpiece, but still is an excellent, worthy film.

I fully intend to watch both!

I've owned pretty much every Hitchcock set they've released from DVD on, so I'm well versed with all of the fillms. The blu-ray transfers were well known as being subpar. Agreed, Rope and Man Who Knew Too Much are probably the best ones in this set. I haven't bought Vol. 3 yet, they always have them on sale cheap on black Friday and I'll pick this up then.

In rope you are referring to John Dall. mostly a ,stage actor. I suggest you watch the making of it to find out more interesting facts about the film.

The Man Who Knew Too Much was filmed on Mitchell VistaVision Cameras horizontal film. It had resolution equivalent to 10K-11K resolution. reason this and The Trouble With Harry looked so sharp and crisp. Imagine if All hitchcock vistavision prints were scanned in 8K. Just imagine. instead of 4K scans here.

You're dead-on about Doris Day in TMWKTM. The first time I saw it as a teen I thought she was phenomenal in that scene and very realistic.
@Quicksilver1934 Жыл бұрын
Rope is my all time favorite Hitchcock movie. One interesting fact is it was shot all in one take! They had two cameras so when the first camera ran out of film, the second one picked up. Ahead of his time.

My favorite Jimmy Stewart movie isn't a horror movie but a comedy. The movie "Harvey" based on a play of the same name is fantastic!

One of the two murderers in Rope, Farley Granger, was also one of the costars of Hitch'd "Strangers on a Train" where yet he again he gets "roped" (pun intended) into a murder plot. I guess Granger just played that type well. I'd like to see that film get a 4 K also. Unfortunately that appears to be a Warners property and they don't seem to want to put out Hitch in 4K, same as Dial M for Murder. I think they also have NBNW. It's too bad we can't get the Grace Kelly trilogy in 4K because all three films are with different studios. What's odd is that several of the Universal Hitch films were originally Paramount releases but somehow Universal obtained those films but not To Catch A Thief.

I am a big Hitchcock fan, but I will not be picking this up. Although I bought vol. 1 & 2, I can't make this purchase for one I love, 2 I kind of like, and 2 I hate. I will absolutely buy Rope with the slip for full price though

I love you Ken. However, can you honestly review this in good faith when you've only watched 60% of the movies in this set?

That's why I was honest and told you. I felt I gave the set an adequate overview.

You can definitely skip out on Torn Curtain and Topaz. They're boring and Hitchcock should not be boring

Vertigo was the true star of Volume 1 with the other 3 films looking pretty meh. How does the Man Who Knew Too Much compare to Vertigo?
@denisdionnesalut5325 Жыл бұрын
Your comment about ‘Frenzy’ is a nonsense. Hitchcock didn’t try to do something different or something like an italian movie. Alfred Hitchcock didn’t write the stories of his movies. He just adapt novels to movies. ‘The Birds’ was based on a novel by Daphne du Maurier, ‘Psycho’ was based on a novel by Robert Bloch, ‘Frenzy’ was based on the novel ‘Goodye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square’ by Arthur La Bern, the movie follows the story of the book.
@midlevelmedia Жыл бұрын
Whether he wrote it or not is irrelevant. He signed on for it, so obviously it was material he was interested in making.
