Gary Sinise acted regularly until 2020. He had always been active with veteran services, and his work with his foundation became a bigger priority over the years. Sadly, his son Mac (who worked at his foundation) was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, so he spent a lot of time helping Mac, as the cancer had caused him to become paralyzed. Sadly, Mac passed away about a year ago and since then Gary has been bringing the music Mac composed to life and has been focusing on releasing those songs on vinyl. I forget who interviewed him late last year, but I listened to a lengthy interview where he talked about this project, and how his foundation has become his legacy more than his acting. Sorry to get all serious, you asked what happened to Sinise and I just heard that interview a few months ago. As for the movie, I remember liking it when I saw it back in college. I don't remember thinking it was top tier DePalma, but it was enjoyable enough to warrant a revisit. I'll probably pick this up in a future Kino Sale.

@@ahaubert80 he’s a great actor and was perfect for this part and in Reindeer Games. He replaced both Will Smith and Vin Diesel in both films respectively and did a bang up job. More power to him for putting a great cause ahead of fame.

As a hardcore DePalma fan, I even like his bad films, I have always really liked Snake Eyes. I will definitely be picking this up. Not his best, but as you say, very DaPalma and I love DePalma.

Sinise made a conscious decision to leave movies as his veteran work was more important to him than acting. I respect that man immensely.

I really dig the film. The ending doesn't hold up to the rest of it, buts the rest of it is darn good and has so much of what DePalma fans love. I recall seeing that at the show.

this movie brings memories of my first DVD player and I rented this one. it was one of the first DVDs that I could rent back in the day. i liked it back then but it is very 90s style. might get it on special for sure.

It’s a really solid film but it just ends too abruptly and mainly because they cut out a major sequence which was 10 minutes long which ILM did some great storm material with which still hasn’t surfaced on any releases. This is Nicolas Cages best performance post Leaving Las Vegas which he really pulls off from going from a manic crazed cop to a broken man at the end which is the point of the movie. Redemption. I wish DePalma did a commentary for this but he rarely does any which is a real shame and also no real making of extras here either. Still a fun movie to watch especially the first 45 minutes.

Hell no. He had better performances in The Rock, Face Off, 8MM, Bringing out the dead, Adaptation, Matchstick Men, the list goes on
@dannydaniel60174 күн бұрын
@ l disagree his greatest Red Rock West overall a film no one saw or has seen same with Guarding Tess, It Could Happen To You, and Trapped In Paradise. This film he’s perfect. His other films like Adaptation which l absolutely hate he’s just winging it. Bringing Out The Dead is a dramatic performance not manic like this which matches Face Off and way superior here than in Face Off. Matchstick Men is good but bland same with Family Man. The closest Cage would come close to something like this film is The Weather Man without nuttiness of this character. I don’t have a problem with the films you mentioned but come on. Of the later films you mentioned 8MM is a masterpiece. Truly underrated and needs a real special edition.

I didn’t have this in my collection so I ordered. I love Brian de Palma. Hey Ken, I wanted to thank you for the hard work you do in putting out content that is informative. I saw a few videos by this KZbin guy called Slipcover Steve. This guy knows nothing about movies and yet hey criticizes you, Sue and Heath at Cereal at Midnight. It’s borderline offensive how hey treats people and yet doesn’t know anything about movies. I love your videos even if I don’t agree with everything in your videos. Keep up the good work.

I always liked this movie even though the plot is not clear. The movie only works because of the performances of Cage and Sinise. Cage plays a character similar to Bruce Willis in 16 Blocks but without depression, just more pumped up, probably with Columbian powder😂

Good... but somewhat awkward film. I saw it in theaters back in 98 or 99, and liked it but the tone set at the beginning doesn't really persist to the second half and instead of an intriguing murder mystery it becomes a sort of clichéd melodrama with some bits of hammy acting sprinkled in... it really should have been better. Nic Cage's character just becomes a bit of a dork at the end despite being Mr cool guy during the film. The end credits are kinda silly and I HATE that 'Sin City' song that plays at the end, always have, doesn't fit the movie at all. The transfer is good, but it feels a little too sharp. Sure sharpness is good and all, but it seems to cause a bit too much grain distortion and the colors should have been more vivid. DePalma should have used more of the orchestral score throughout the movie instead of changing the tone so drastically in the second half. Still, I do enjoy this one and glad I got the 4k.

Snake Eyes is a brutally bad movie... completely unrealistic, nick cages "I'm the authority here Mr. Fbi. Meanwhile he's some police detective is brutal.😂", Gary Sinese is an awfully hammy bad guy here. Even the typical big Depalma style, and shots just get lost in all the convoluted plot mechanics. 🤦♂️🙃 Amazing someone took the time to analyze such a painfully bad film. I'd watch DePalma's Femme Fatale over this. 💩
@michelle_pgh4 күн бұрын
When this came out I remember thinking the trailer looked great, then I saw the film in the theater and was unimpressed. If this is cheap in a Kino sale I might pick it up, but probably not. It'd be interesting to see if 27 years later I feel any kinder to the film. But there are way too many better films to buy. DePalma is so hit and miss. About half his filmography consists of films that aren't really good, but there's a decent film buried in there trying to get out somewhere in them.
