I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this. I did Midna recently for PAX East and didn't have a clue as to how everything would come together. The headband bit is pure genius (I altered mine with wire screws on the top of the headband instead of the side; still had the same result!). But if I hadn't found this video, I don't think my Midna would have come out as polished. So thank you thank you for this!

Actually it's not human form, it's twili form
@NekoYona8 жыл бұрын
thats a really good input, thank you^^ i used human form because she has two different looks. but she's a twili in both forms, since she's born that race, right? so how make a difference between both of her forms? lot of people think of her as "imp"-form and "human"-form (or true form) thats why I used human form. but I'll keep yout input in mind!
@SkulleD428 жыл бұрын
+NekoYona Oh yeah, you're right, she's twili in both forms. I call her "cursed Midna" in the imp form and "Twili Midna" in her human form, this last cause Hyrule Warriors, where her name in human form is Twili Midna, that's why I commented that
@NekoYona8 жыл бұрын
Cursed Midna is also a good idea. Maybe they call her twili midna because Nintendo thinks, when Midna is cursed, shes no Twili anymore. But thats kind of strange. Well, I guess both works, so no problem here I guess ^^

Would you be willing to tell me how you painted/dyed/whatever your bodysuit? ^^ That always seems to be the part which draws the most trouble, and yours looks practically pristine. Thank you so much!
@NekoYona8 жыл бұрын
Sure, I'm glad to help! And thanks for the comment ^^ For this suit, I've bought a full white body suit. paint the blue designs on first, because the blue will be much brighter if you paint it on white fabric then on black one. Whats good about painting blue first and black after is that you can even out your blue lines with black if you made mistakes or uneven lines. But if you do paint blue on black, be sure to use fabric paint for dark fabrics and you should get about the same effect. For painting, be sure to first wear your suit und roughly mark (maybe chalk?) the design on. If a friend does that for you or wears the bodysuit for you its way easier to do is. You could even use a black fabric marker because you'll draw over it with black. but this leaves a permanent mark, so be sure not to make mistakes using a marker. Do not paint the suit while you're wearing it. Its impossible to take it of without messing up your white suit parts. And yes, I was dumb enough to try this... luckly just the leg... but it resultet in me cutting the suit up and replacing almost all of the white fabric... yay. If you paint it, be sure to stretch the elastic fabric while doing so. Also spread the paint evenly. I failed this, so you can see some dark and some brighter spots on my suit ^^' While painting You dont want to get paint through the fabric onto the other side of the suit, so in order to stretch and protect the back side, slide a piece of cardbord into the suit. You may want to wait for it to be dry before you remove the cardboard from an area. so thats how I did the one you see in the video its been 3 years since I've made my suit and I'm thinking of redoing it. I actually believe its more beautifull if you make your suit out of black and white fabric. As I've already said, my black paint isn't evenly spread and I've got white spots. Others may not notice, but I want an even black surface. Also, the black paint isn't a deep black color and I would love a darker one. Maybe it was the brand of fabric paint, maybe there are better blacks now, I dont know. So if you feel like doing a suit out of black and white fabric, you can start with a bodysuit pattern or cut your white bodysuit in pieces and replace the pieces which have to be black with the black fabric. It will replace your painting time with sewing time xD I guess it will result in a more beautifull black and I believe I'll try this soon. I wrote down everything I had to consider, so I hope this will help you. If you still have questions about this, feel free to write again!
@Electrosa8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for such a detailed reply! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. ;; I've been thinking of making the bodysuit from scratch as well. It seems like the best way to get the cleanest lines and most accurate shapes. Thank you very much for all your help! What kind of paint did you use?
@NekoYona8 жыл бұрын
you're welcome! yes, If you feel like doing it from scratch, do it! like this you are also able to controll that the seems arent on your side of the body, but on the inside of the legs and of cause where black and white meet. but be aware that sewing strechy fabric is annoying and that a very good sewing machine, with an overlock mechanic, would make it easier, if you are able to use one somehow ^^ its still possible with a regular one, I exchanged the white parts of the suit with a regular one. the paint was regular fabric paint.I'm from switzerland so depending on where you live you wont have the same brands like me^^ but check on how you have to fix the paint so it wouldnt wash out. that would be sad

Hey! Do you mean that thing that goes over the hood from the back of the head? I used wires as a base, covered them in orage felt, then glued and hairprayed wefts of the wig onto it on the outside and partly also on the inside on the front, so the hair covers the edges. As the video shows, the rest of the inside has s velcro strip, which attaches to velcro on the hood. Hope this helps? Otherwhise contact me on Insta so I can send you a close up :)

Hi! This is a really helpful video and I thank you for that. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your wig? My friends and I are cosplaying as Zelda characters for Halloween and I chose Twili Midna (human form.) I can't really find a good wig colour or the length of her hair. Or if you don't know where you got it, do you have any recommendations?
@NekoYona8 жыл бұрын
hi! glad I could help! :) and a zelda group for halloween sounds awesome, midna fits to halloween pretty good ^^ I dont remember the website I got it from, but it was a wig for the character orohime from bleach. maybe you can find a good one this way.just make sure the bangs are long enough to push them to the sides and make the upper spike^^ i uploaded a video where you can see how I styled my wig if you need it^^

For the bodysuit, if you make it yourself, flexible fabric like jersey or other. If you do it yourself, take white and black fabrig, because paintig it black is a pain, especially to spread the paint evenly. If you plan on making a gradient from blue to black for the inside of the cape, cotton is good, because its easy to color. Other fabrics behave differently when you make the gradient. For skirt and outside of the cape I was looking for a black fabric with darker cyrcles and waves on it, just as you see in the game (hd) But thats nearly impossible to find. Instead I took a shiny fabric, almost like satin, but it has a furry texture. Like, if you go over it with your hand, it will leave marks, but if you go over it again the other direction, its flat again. With this you can kind of pull of her not evenly black fabric.i dont know the name of the fabric in english sadly, but I hope you know what I mean^^

Hello:D I watched many times because is so perfect ; ; I wanna ask you which fabric u used for the cape and you did the hair band (the last one) It's so beautiful ❤️
@NekoYona7 жыл бұрын
Circe Katy aaaw thank you so much :-* for the cape I used a black... Velvet? The fabric which has kind of a furry texture, but very short hairs. With that the black always changes and reflects the light in different angles. Its a bit tricky to paint, but it works ^^ I used alluminum wire for the basic shape of the orange hairband, covered it with orange felt and then covered one side with hair from the back of the wig ^^ i glued it on somehow, but I dont remember how anymore, sadly. But I also used a lot of hairspray and a needle and a thread to attach the hair loop in the middle of the band^^
@CirceKatySonamy7 жыл бұрын
NekoYona Thanks ;3; ❤️❤️❤️ And finally... Which kind of paint u used for painting the cape? ;0;
@NekoYona7 жыл бұрын
Circe Katy you're welcome^^ its a fabric paint, the white one was one with a pearl shimmer finish (kind of glitter in it) and after 1 coat of that I used 4 coats of a glow in the dark paint. So all the white symbols and lines actually glow in the dark. What most people will never realise xD
@reneebelladonna90538 жыл бұрын
what did you make the hair band out of (what you used to hold the long pieces together in the front) and how did you make it
@NekoYona8 жыл бұрын
do you mean the black band? Not so sure^^' But if so, I drilled two holes at the ends to put the rubber band through and tied some knots there. to attach the crown, I made two pieces out of modelling clay, as I wrote inthe video. Its called 'Fimo' and gets hard when you bake it. Basicly, I made a ball out of Fimo, sticked one of the wooden pieces in there and then pressed the Fimo flat on the sides of the band. I wore the band and bent the Fimo to match the round shape the band has when you wear it on the head. after I made sure that it lies flat and isn't too thin (because the Fimo breaks if its too thin) I took it off the band, took the wooden piece out and backed the two pieces. Since hot glue would break due to the bending of the alice band, I used tape to attach the two pieces to the Alice Band. I added a Velcro Fastener at the top and one inside the hood so it wil stick to the Alice Band^^ Its a little bit hard to explain, especially since English isnt my first language, but I hope you'll understand what I just wrote and that I was able to help you ^^
@reneebelladonna90538 жыл бұрын
No not the alice band, the round thing that holds the long hair together in front of your chest
@NekoYona8 жыл бұрын
+Renee Belladonna Ah, I'm sorry ^^ The round Thing is a wooden ring I found by chance in the local hobby store and I made the design on it out of Worbla, a thermoplastic Material. Just cut it into shape and put it on with heat. Maybe you'll be lucky and you find a ring as well, otherwhise you may do it out of Fimo? I guess it would be easier than trying to create a wooden ring by yourself... Then I drilled two holes in order to stick the wooden stick through. The ends are made out of Fimo as well, one has been glued to the stick, the other one has to be able to be removed ^^ And as you can see in the tutorial it will only work if I tie my hair and but the stick through the hair tie. ^^

@reneebelladonna90539 жыл бұрын
if so, what did you make it out of? and if not, where can I buy?
@NekoYona9 жыл бұрын
hello there! Yes, I made those things. Alice Band: buy one with spikes in a local shop or online, you'll need the additional hold. Drill a hole at the ends and pull a rubber band through. I molded those strange things on the sides of the Alice band out of Fimo, a modelling clay that gets hard when baked. I attached them to the Alice Band with tape. Those thingies have holes in them so I can slide in the head piece. Head piece: out of wooden sticks and Fimo as well. The connections are fixed with thin wire. "Snake piece with red gemstone": you can make it out of fimo as well, but it breaks apart way too fast. I used Worbla, a thermoplastic material for this one, because its able to bend. Just cut it out and painted it. I bought the stone in a crafting shop. Hope this helps! If anything is unclear, just ask^^
@NekoYona9 жыл бұрын
oh, and the bow thing is a little harder. Like I wrote in the video, its made out of hair from the wig, cut it at the back so noone would see. I made a first construction with wire and glued some orange fabric on both sides on the wire in order to cover it and have a good base. then I've glued and sprayed the hair on, I used white glue I guess ... I really dont remember anymore, sorry. but glueing/sticking it on was very messy and you have to figure out by yourself which materials work best. As I said, glue (not hot glue, burns the hair!) and hairspray was the main part. The Hair/Bow thing is attached with Velcro Fastener on the hood of the cape^^

Hi! Thank you for your feedback and question. The wig is styled differently now and also very used, I do not know if you would like the hairstyle (its a from a Midna fanart) and the quality of it. The headpiece is also incomplete, the thing on the forehead broke, and I will have to check on the crown thing. All in all, this costume has been worn so many times over several years, so the wig and head piece are in bad shape. If you would still be interested, you can contact me either on fb or instagram so I can send you pictures :)

@NekoYona2 жыл бұрын
@@patrona78 i would have to make a new one, made the pieces above the head and the attachments on the headband for them out of polymer clay and the one on the forehad out of worblas crystal art, which is moldable plastic. The rest are wooden sticks, some wire, pearls and paint. It is a bit tricky to shape both sides similar, but maybe you could make it yourself :)

There are scenes in the game and pictures where she has a blue tint in her skin, yes. However, in cutscenes like in the desert, in full daylight, her skin clearly looks black and white. For a fotoshoot, If I would use blue lights, the white would look blueish too. However, I did think about trying to give the skin a blueisch undertone. This cosplay is 5 years old now and since i didnt have the skills I have today, I decided not to try. Matching fabric color to a blueish make up wasnt something I would have been able to do back then, so black and white was easier^^
