Way simpler than iRipper or messing with launch flags/custom .exes to load an unarchived assets_p.dat. Drag and done. Perfect!

I heard MC2's modding scene was pretty quiet because of how supposedly complex it was. It seems like one of those games you'd expect to have a big mod scene years after its release, but I'm guessing full-on expansions or addon vehicles would just straight up require a decomp or reverse engineering of the game at this point.

As a modder for this game, I can say that some things are simple to mod and understand, and other things are definetly more complex. It depends how deep you dive into things, but the modding scene (albeit small now) for MC2 is full of great and dedicated people for sure. The amount of tools and tutorials available from others make modding this game easily accessible for beginners who want to mod MC2. Although you are right, a full-on expansion and adding extra vehicles would require reverse engineering, which is unfortunately out of the skill set of the scene for the moment. Making an extra vehicle show up in the menu is possible, but trying to drive this ‘extra’ car will crash the game

would this also work similarly to midnight club 3? e.g. if i change vehicle tuning in assets.dat, save e.g. do you what did in the video, and put the assets back into the iso, would it work?
@Hazzerooni9 ай бұрын
Hi, yes. The ar_extract.exe was initially made for MC3, so it will work fine with this game. You just have to make sure you remake the iso properly as the PS2 (or PCSX2) won’t read it

Can you show how to swap the motorcycle rider textures to the player? I want the race suits

Hey, thanks for these wonderful tools! So I verified that the extractor works for the PS2 version of the game as well. However, a follow-up question is do you have any leads on a HD textures mod for MC2? Whether it be for the PS2 or PC version? Usually, when upscaling the game, textures are not as sharp as they could be. Thanks!

Heyo, there’s no textures mod for the PS2 version at all as far as I know, but there are mods for the PC version that have the PS2’s road textures, as they’re a lot better than what the PC/Xbox use, I can get the link for you if you want. As of HD textures, I don’t think anybody has bothered with this so far. It’s been done for MC3 but not for any of MC2’s platforms

Great program! I don't think this can work with MC3 though, I've been trying to use it to make some cars handle differently and I can never get the ISO to load. I'm not entirely sure but I think the problems has something to do with the compression.

Hey, the ar_extract.exe was initially made for MC3 (I’m not sure about zip2dat), but this tool works for MCSR, 2 and 3. It’s most likely an issue with remaking the iso as it’s quite tedious to do. I think there are other methods for MC3 assets, but I can’t help you there 😊

How do you make custom races outside of the race editor?
@Hazzerooni11 ай бұрын
You can edit .rac files (located in assets_p/tune/race) with Notepad to create races outside of the race editor. Although this is much more complicated and requires some knowledge and a way to get coordinates of the player car, this way is much more extensive than using the race editir
