For anyone interested, the entire movie "Midnight Express" is posted on KZbin. Also, this movie differed substantially from actual events. There is a posting on KZbin called "Banged Up Abroad" narrated by William Hayes that recreates the actual events. He escaped an island prison in a small row boat, then swam a river into Greece. Greece deported him to the US and there is a pic of him and his dad sitting in JFK airport.

To be precise, the part of the frisbee and the part of the soldier on the bus is Maltese. For the rest i don't know. But as I said, the movie was filmed in Malta during the 1970s and they used the fortress of St. elmo in Valetta as a set for the prison.
@jondstewart3 жыл бұрын
But the American public were too scared and xenophobic to realize how unrealistic it was. Nobody knew what they were speaking nor smart enough to realize the prisoners slept in dorm-style barracks where they could walk around freely and get out of their cells into a dayroom area, even if it was all cement and had a water fountain.
@capncake8837 Жыл бұрын

one of the best movies ever made, with a Moroder soundtrack to top it off. It's portrayal of Turks may have been very harsh and prejudiced, but most great art is biased and subjective in many ways. It is portraying the Turks from Billy's point of view, not an objective observer. Of course one going thru this predicament would be biased and notice the flaws and negative attributes of any society. It is this very portrayal of Turkey and the Turks in a harsh light that makes this movies great.

@RealPinkDreams....actually the soldier on the bus first asks "what are you doing" in Maltese and then he says something else in another language. The soldiers near the plane....are not Mltese. As for the plane itself, it made part of the Airmalta fleet....infact you can recognize the colours which Airmalta used to paint its planes with back then. Well it’s virtually impossible to smuggle drugs now a days. US airport security has body scan and thermal imaging and drug sniffing dogs on stand by.
